Rachel Edri is a 65 year old woman who lives in Ofakim. On October 7th terrorists broke into her home, and instead of running away or hiding she offered them cookies. She stalled them with cookies and tea untill the security forces arrived and rescued her and her husband. In my opinion Rachel's act was very brave and shows that keeping calm instead of panicking can save your life and even others.

Itamar Melamed

Her little sister Ella was kidnapped with her and Dafna spent all of her time taking care of her. I think it’s amazing that during this time she was in danger herself, she could still take care of her family and that’s why I picked her as my hero.

-Maayan Laskar

Tali Hadad is a mother of six from Ofakim. On October 7, her son, Itamar, a combat soldier who spent the weekend home, grabbed his weapon and went out to the street to fight the terrorists. He got wounded, and Tali picked him up in her car and drove him and other injured people to the MDA station at the entrance of Ofakim. Even though her son was severely wounded, his mom encouraged him to stay conscious and explained that he would have to wait for her at the hospital because she had to help others. And so she did. After helping 13 people to get to the first medical care service, she eventually got to the Ichilov Hospital in Tel-Aviv to see Itamar.

I'm in awe of Tali Hadad's unselfishness, which allows her to see the good of the people before her own or her loved ones.

Tami Aviran-Hartal

I chose Sagit Levi as my hero.

Sagit Levi is a resident in kibutz Erez which is located in the Gaza strip area. On the morning of october seventh Sagit heard the sirens from the kibutz near her and even though it was a regular thing in the Gaza Strip area something felt different this time. Sagit decided to start the "command room" instructing all of the kibutz members how to act and helping the deffense forces to locate and save civilians that are in stress. thanks to her resourcefuness Sagit was able to save many civilians and helped the army on its mission.

I think her act was heroic and amazing because she was able to save tons of people from only a huntch and later on she did not collapse under the pressure and never gave up on saving people even when her own life were in risk.

Naama Sadan

One of the Mada workers who helped in that horrible day, the 7th of October.

This for example is a senior paramedic who woke up in the morning seeing his friends write to him that they hear the red alarm but he said to the it must be a false one like they always have, and he get to his shift. there they hear that they were emergencies calls about shot people and they call for back up from other people who wasn't on the shift, everyone for there as fast as they could and they drive to the location. on the way Malek heard that there may be terrorists in the red he was in but he kept driving meeting military cars on the way and getting injured people in, trying to save everyone and evacuate as quickly as possible. He calmed people down and saved people in critical conditions. If it wasn't for guys like him we would have lost many other people that day. because of that I chose him to be my hero, they didn't give up and didn't got scared and worked for days without a rest to save civilians.

Kim Kronos

I chose the late Major General Adi Eldor, because I thought it was important to share his story. Adi was a hero who sacrificed his life for his people and country. He was a fighter in the Magellan (Commando) unit of the idf who fell near the southern Gaza Strip. He was 21 years old when he died. According to his parents and relatives he was: ‘a hero, a child of giving and love who was a role model for his brothers’.

By lian.

I choose Eitan as my hero because on october 7th he was kidnapped to gaza by gunpoint alone and was held hostage in solitary for 2 weeks with no interactions with anyone, 2 weeks without seeing anybody you know in a hostile place away from your home. He knew nothing of what happened to his family or to his friends until he was united with his kibbutz caretaker for the rest of his captivity. he was released in the first ceasefire at the age of 12.

sagie
