I remember going to Notre Dame the first time when I was a rising senior in high school. I have been many many times since. From the time when I lived there for a summer to taking my husband to view this beauty. Every time that I went, I would go inside and light a candle for a loved one who have passed away. My heart is broken and I was glued to the news yesterday. My heart goes out to everyone who has been a part of this beautiful cathedral and to the Parisians!

We just went again last summer & had lunch across the street to be immersed in it’s beauty and it was my youngest daughter's first time, I’ve been & taken students multiple times....prayed in the pews, witnessed mass, lit candles for friends & family and climbed to the top to explore a Quasimodo’s view! It was always indescribably stunning & you could feel yourself enveloped in important history & culture upon entering! I’m very sad that one of the rose🌹 windows is gone, thrilled most of the alter is still in tact & hope they can restore/ or replicate it to it’s glory! The last pic is from a fb friend currently in Paris who snapped it just the day before the fire, just stunning in it’s grandeur and I will cherish it always!

I had hoped to see it in it's original state, but I suppose I will have to see it once it is reconstructed. Luckily, due to it being under renovated at the time of the fire, a lot of the art had been taken out and is now safe.

Thankfully, no one has been hurt and there are preparations
being made to rebuild it.

So this must be heartbroken for many people. I researched more on this building and found out that the building was made for the Virgin Mary. I would've loved to visit the Notre Dame but since the incident happened I can't, it's sad to know that it took over 500 firefighters to take that fire out.

It has always been my dream to travel around the world and I began to learn about the Notre Dame de Paris in the movie by Disney: The Hunchback of Notre Dame. As I looked into the cathedral, I began to fall in love with the architecture and beauty of the cathedral. It saddens me to know that it caught fire and the original building will have to be rebuilt. Even with the rebuilding, the authenticity will be lost. It will no longer have the original materials or structure. But the history and most of the pieces and stuff inside will be saved. Hopefully the art is all safe and glass and sculptures are okay.

First, let me acknowledge that the (most likely accidental) burning of a 900-year-old cathedral, one of the premier examples of Gothic cathedrals in the world, as well as one of the most culturally significant buildings of Paris, is indeed a shame - after all, the loss of any historical artifact is a loss for humanity. However, the Lady of Paris shall persevere: although the spire has collapsed and much of the roof is burnt to ashes, much of the cathedral was unaffected - or only slightly damaged (yes, including most of the rose windows - although they'll need replacing, it's not like they haven't been replaced multiple times in the past). Notre-Dame has survived the Hundred Years' War, the Wars of Religion, even the tumultuous times of the French Revolution and the Commune, not to mention both world wars - if she can survive those, she can survive this fire. Just like the ship referred to in the motto of Paris, "Fluctuat nec Mergitur" - tossed by the waves but not sunk - Notre Dame shall endure as she has wars and revolutions, and come out stronger. As for me? Just like the Parisians of 1831, I await to see the rebirth of the cathedral. But how will the restoration go, and who shall be this century's Viollet-le-Duc? Only time can tell.

I visited Notre Dame during my trip to Paris with my mother when I was younger and I remember we went inside the beautiful cathedral and lit a candle in honor of those in our family who we wished to pray for as well as those who were no longer with us. I was shocked to see images of Notre Dame in flames, and I am sad that such an event took place. I am however happy to know that much of the cathedral is still safe and hope repairs will go well and swiftly.

I have never been to Notre Dame - I have never been to France, in fact! But I understand that the cathedral is one of the oldest, most impressive, most valuable, and most loved products of centuries-old architecture in existence. In light of its tragic burning, part of me is tempted to feel as though, even if it is restored, it will loose some sort of 'purity' of being an untouched artifact of history. If part of it was rebuilt in modern times, would it still feel like a piece of history?
The answer, I believe, is yes. I am reminded when looking at content regarding the cathedral that it is the product of not one but many time periods. It has been restored time and time again to maintain its sacred beauty. It shines with the work of many centuries and eras, and the restoration process set to take place after this fire will simply add the mark of our lifetimes to the building.
Seeing images online of the destroyed parts of the building right alongside undamaged pieces of religious significance inspires feelings that pretty much sum up the situation for me; Notre Dame is damaged, but it hasn't died - in fact, the root of its significance lives on. It will continue to be the cathedral it is, and this event will go in the architecture textbooks as one that, though dramatic, could not destroy the titanic building. Notre Dame's history was added to on Monday, not ruined.

Hearing about the fire made me very sad knowing that such a beautiful place could be so easily ruined.

I have never visited Notre Dame but I have always wanted too. It was sad to hear about the fire and how it destroyed a very beautiful and historic building. Although the Notre Dame was in flames, I still want to visit it because it is still a historic place and still holds it's beauty. I hope they are making plans to rebuild it.

I have never been to the cathedral or Europe in general. I find this fire to be very tragic but at least most of it can be recovered. It's upsetting how something with hundreds of years of history to burn down in a matter of hours and minutes.

I have never been to Notre Dame but I've seen pictures and it is truly breathtaking. What I admire most about it was it's history and thank God that it's still standing because now it's history is still alive. Although, the repairs to won't be the same I do believe that there is hope and that this will be a new beginning for it.

Although I have never been overseas, I always dreamed of going to France. When I heard of the Notre Dame Cathedral burning down, I was devastated. I could never see it! Although many of my peers around me were quite nonchalant, I was shocked. The cathedral that had been a huge part of history for almost 800 years was gone! However, there has been about $1 billion donated to rebuild the cathedral, so I believe that there is hope. On the other hand, the restored version cannot be the same as the original.
