MLs are allowed to receive extra time in all of their assessments. Depending on the principal, students may receive time and a half or more based on the classroom teacher's opinion.

Separate Location

MLs may take their assessments in a different room. The testing environment should best benefit MLs, allowing them to take the exam in a separate location with other MLs is another accommodation.

Third Reading

Proctors will read the passage three times instead of two. In the listening section of the ELA exam and in the Comprehensive Examination in English of the Regents exam, MLs are given a third read.

Bilingual Glossaries

MLs are allowed to use glossaries in their home language only if it has direct translations to English and no definitions or explanations.

State provided translated exams

The State's Education Department may provide students with a translated content exam, except the English Language Arts exam. Students can use both translated and English exam, but only write their answers in on version.

Oral Translations

MLs may also receive oral translations on any exam except the English Language Arts. Translators are only allowed to directly translate the English text into ML's home language, without explanations or descriptions.

Use of home language

MLs are allowed to use their home language on extended responses on all exams except the English Lnaguage Arts. Schools are responsible of grading these responses.

Former ELLs

MLs who have been classified as English proficient on the NYSESLAT will continue to receive accommodations for an additional two years.

Next Day completion

MLs who are taking multiple assessments or assessments with multiple parts may be allowed to complete the remaining assessment the following morning.

Braille
