It would be dangerous to live in Japan for one main reason: It is in a area where lots of earthquakes and tsunami's would occur. According to the text source Japan sits on the boundary of four tectonic plates making it more vulnerable to frequent large tsunamis and Earthquakes. As it can be seen, the picture source shows the wave height in centimetres in the area around Japan. The colours vary from yellow (0cm) to black (240+). It shows that the area with the highest waves are concentrated near the shore of Japan. This shows the time when a 8.9 magnitude earthquake happened 15.2 miles underwater causing a tsunami to hit the shore of Japan wrecking the coastline. Japan has been hit by frequent earthquakes and tsunamis and according to the text source "the resulting earthquake was about 1,400 times stronger than the 6.9 magnitude Kobe". Clearly, it can be seen that Japan is a dangerous place to live because of it's earthquakes and tsunamis.

The most prominent reason for why it is so dangerous to live in Japan is because it is prone to frequent earthquakes. "The 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Japan" and "Japan sits on or near the boundary of four tectonic plates." according to the text source it is evident that Japan experiences frequent and powerful earthquakes. Furthermore, it is also stated in the text that numerous lives were lost in result to an earthquake 1400 times smaller than this one, at a magnitude of 6.9. "The resulting earthquake was about 1,400 times stronger than the 6.9 magnitude Kobe earthquake that killed more than 5,000 people and injured 26,000 in 1995."
In addition to earthquakes, Japan also experiences frequent tsunamis as a result of the earthquakes. The visual source depicts a tidal wave on the Coast of Japan with a scale of 0cm high represented by green and anywhere above 200cm represented by darker shades of black. By viewing this source it is evident that Japan does experience not only frequent, but also powerful tsunamis too as much of the tidal wave is made up of purple to black colouring, symbolising a wave higher than 100cm, even going over 200cm. It is for these reasons that Japan is a dangerous place to live in.

It is dangerous to live in Japan for these reasons. The most prominent reason why Japan would be dangerous to live in is because "Japan sits on or near the boundary of four tectonic plates". This means that Japan is always vulnerable of experiencing earthquakes and tsunamis. " The 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck coastal Japan ", tells us that these earthquakes would have a huge impact on the society. Such impacts would include property damage major injuries and death. In addition to reason 1 Japan also has many tsunamis. In the diagram it shows the different heights of tsunamis that occur ranging from 0cm (which are represented with yellow colouring) to as high as 240+cm (represented with the black colouring). In conclusion it is evident that it would be dangerous living in Japan as it experiences frequent earthquakes and tsunamis as it sits near to the boundary of the tectonic plates and it causes many deaths and destruction.

Why would it be dangerous living in Japan?

Living in Japan would be dangerous because of multiple reasons including: That Japan experiences various earthquakes and tsunamis and that Japan resides in the 'Ring of Fire'. Referring to the text source, one significant reason is that Japan lies upon four tectonic plates, the Pacific, Filipino, Eurasian and North American. It is also evident that when the plates rub against each other, pressure builds. "These massive slabs of earth’s crust are endlessly creeping, slipping, locking up and then jolting again." depicts the text source And when the pressure releases, devastating events occur, like earthquakes and tsunamis.

According to the text, Japan experienced a horrific 8.9 magnitude earthquake, that resulted in "spawning many powerful tsunamis". “Japan is one of the most seismically active areas in the world,” states John Bellini, a U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist. Evidently, Japan experiences frequent tremors, but none as devastating as this one, which was,"1,400 times stronger than the 6.9 magnitude Kobe earthquake that killed more than 5,000 people and injured 26,000 in 1995". Therefore, Japan is a dangerous are to reside in, due to the high earthquake/tsunami levels.

Another prominent reason for living in Japan to be unsafe is that Japan lies in the 'Ring of Fire'. Referring to the text source again, "the Ring of Fire is an arc that stretches along the Pacific ocean and is home to 90 percent of the world's quakes and more than 75 percent of the world's volcanoes,". This furthermore proves that Japan is highly prone to seismic activity. Furthermore, by viewing the visual source, it is evident that it is a map depicting the wave height of the Pacific Ocean. In addition, Japan's coastline experiences over 140+cm waves which indicates a possible tsunami, due to the black shading which displays over 240cm. In conclusion, Japan can be a extremely dangerous place to live in as it is highly earthquake active, due to the 4 tectonic plates, Japan resides in the Ring of Fire and in addition to earthquakes, Japan receives many tsunamis.

Based on the source, why could it be dangerous to reside in Japan? Refer to the Source in your answer.

It is dangerous to live in Japan for one main reason, as said in the text: It is prone to high magnitude Earth Quakes.
As "Japan sits on or near the boundary of four tectonic plates: the Pacific, North American, Eurasian and Filipino plates" Japan would experience earth quakes and Tsunamis on a regular basis.
With such earthquakes many deaths would occur. The 1995 Kobe earthquake was approximately 1,400 times weaker than the most recent one and had more than 5000 mortalities, according to the text. These multiple deaths caused by frequent, high magnitude earth quakes is a prominent reason why it would be dangerous to live in Japan.
A final reason why it would be dangerous to live in Japan is the many aftershocks caused by such large earthquakes. Emily So, a civil engineer who lives in Japan stated that “We will be expecting aftershocks, maybe for days, months and years.” This means that more injuries and mortalities are likely to occur even months or years after large quakes they so often experience.
It is because Japan experiences Earthquakes and Tsunamis regularly, large mortalities and after shocks caused by earth quakes that Japan is indeed a very dangerous place to live.

It would be dangerous to live in Japan because according to the text source, Japan is "near the boundary of four tectonic plates" which could result in a recurring event of earthquakes and tsunamis striking at Japanese residents. "The Pacific plate has been inching its way under the North American plate... As these plates butt into each other, pressure build and build... The release of such tension causes earthquakes and the sudden lifting of the seabed triggers the tsunami." reports a geophysicist. From this quote, it is evident that Japan will experience these hazards and disasters more frequently. According to the picture source, it shows the wave height ranging from 0cm (green) to 240+cm (black). The image shows that more tsunamis tend to happen near the coastal to portions around the region. Also, it is stated that "Japan sits in the 'Ring of fire', an arc that stretches along the basin of the Pacific Ocean, and is home to 90% of the world's earthquakes". This fact proves furthermore that it is "prone to earthquakes". In addition, it is recorded to have an earthquake (in Japan) about 1400 times stronger than the Kobe earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.9, which had killed more than 5000 people and injured 26000 in 1995. "The shaking was so great that it was felt as far away as Tokyo, which is 230 miles from the quake's epicentre", said a seismologist at USGS. This is another reason why Japan would be affected by strong recurring earthquakes.
To conclude, it is evident from the text and image source, that Japan is a dangerous place to live, as it lies under tectonic plates, can trigger tsunamis and sits in the "ring of fire".

It is dangerous living in Japan as the country experiences earthquakes and tsunamis. These natural disasters happen frequently as "Japan sits on or near the boundary of four tectonic plates".
The most prominent reason as stated in source 1 is that "Japan is one of the most seismically active areas in the world". Due to the tectonic plates laying under the country that aren't constantly moving at a smooth rate, it puts the countries at risk of re-occurring earthquakes. The country also lies in the "the ring of fire" which Is home to 90% of the worlds earthquakes. With the large amount of people living there these earthquakes takes a massive death toll on humans. The Kobe earthquake killed over 5,000 people but was only classified a 6.9 magnitude earthquakes. This makes it evident that the earthquakes experienced are much more powerful taking an even larger amount of lives with it.
The second reason Japan is a dangerous country to live in is the resulting effects of the earthquakes, the tsunamis. As shown in the source, the height of these tsunamis rise to above 240cm. It stretches out around the country with the majority wave height ranging from 20 to 80 cm. This adds to the earthquake making the end result much more devastating.
The third reason is large amount of

It is evident that japan regularly receives high magnitude earthquakes, it is evident that this is most likely due to japans location as it sits on the boundaries of 4 tectonic plates. As seen in figure 1 this can create tsunamis with waves ranging 0cm shown in green all the way to 2.4m shown in black. This can often damage cities along the coastal lines of japan causing millions of dollars worth of damage. As stated in the text the second reason japan is very dangerous is because, Japan sits inside "The Ring Of Fire". The text also states that "the ring of fire is home to more than 75% of the worlds volcanoes and 90% of the worlds earthquakes". This makes japan extremely dangerous due to the effect of earthquakes and volcanoes causing massive tsunamis.

It will be dangerous to live in Japan because of these reasons: "Japan is an island sitting on the edges of four large tectonic plates, including the Pacific, North American, Eurasian and Filipino plates." According to the text source, these tectonic plates are at risk of colliding into each other causing pressure which is a key factor of creating earthquakes. This suggests the earthquake is frequently occurring in Japan.
In addition as stated in the text source. "The movement of tectonic plates also cause a sudden move of seabed resulting a tsunami." This suggest that the people living near the shore is constantly at risk of being killed by tsunami which makes Japan a dangerous place to live.
Referring to the figure, it depicts the wave height during a '8.9 magnitude earthquake' . Areas near the coastline which is coloured in black depicts that the height of the wave is around 200cm-240cm. The rise of waves over 2 metres suggest that coastal areas of Japan can be easily covered up by sea water. This another reason why Japan is a dangerous place to live.
In summary, the unpredictable earthquakes and the tsunamis makes Japan a dangerous place to live in.

Living in Japan would be dangerous as Japan experiences high magnitude earthquakes along with tsunamis, causing huge damage to the environment. As depicted in the text source, Japan "Japan sits on or near the boundary of four tectonic plates: the Pacific, North American, Eurasian and Filipino plates...are endlessly creeping, slipping, locking up and then jolting again. " This event causes Japan to be dangerous as the constant shaking and pressure building up results in both earthquakes and tsunamis. It is evident from the picture source that Japan experiences wave heights of more than 240 cm as shown by the black area surrounding Japan. This shows that living in Japan would be dangerous as other areas surrounding Japan only have wave lengths of 0-80 as indicated by the blue to red colour sections. As seen from the picture source, Japan is more prone to heavy damage than other countries.
As a result of Japan experiencing Earthquakes and Tsunamis on a frequent basis, there has been much damage to the environment. As illustrated by the text source, the 8.9-magnitude earthquake "was about 1,400 times stronger than the 6.9 magnitude Kobe earthquake that killed more than 5,000 people and injured 26,000 in 1995." This perhaps, indicates that more people were injured or had died and the earthquake was stronger. As a result of having a stronger earthquake, there is a possibility of an enormous tsunami being generated, resulting in even more deaths. As demonstrated by the picture source, most of the wave heights higher than 20 cm (red to black section) are heading in the direction of Japan. This shows that the wave lengths of Japan are increasing as earthquakes occur, thus causing areas surrounding Japan to be equally dangerous.
It is evident that living in Japan is dangerous as Japan experiences increasing high magnitude earthquakes and tsunamis, resulting the injury and death of people.

Living in Japan would be dangerous for various reasons.
Firstly, Japan is a small island surrounded by ocean, and according to the text source , it is evident that, 'Japan sits on or near the boundary of four tectonic plates: the Pacific, North American, Eurasian and Filipino plates.' This causes major tsunamis and major earthquakes. According to the text, it is also evident that these tectonic plates are always moving around at clashing against each other often, and by that, the plates build up pressure and then releases it which then causes an earthquake. This depicts that it is common in Japan, to have an earthquake and tsunami.

In addition, the graphic source- which shows the wave height (in cm)- depicts that on the east coast of japan, the wave height goes up to 0cm which is shown by the colour of green, yet on the eastern side of Japan, the wave height is coloured in a shades of black, which goes to 200-240 cm. Otherwise, the rest of the ocean is mainly orange and red coloured, which depicts that the waves out in the open ocean are regularly 20-50cm high.
In conclusion, Japan is not a safe place to live in, due to the natural disasters effected by the tectonic plates that Japan sits on.
