Carrie Nation was a woman during the late 1800s who was a radical believer in the Temperance movement. She thought that God told her that she had to take action and that alcohol was the root of all evil. As a result, she went around smashing different saloons and destroying private property in the name of destroying evil. When she was caught she told everyone that they were hypocrites and that they were all going against God.

From the start, when Catholics were immigrating to the States for the first time, they were hated, and it was believed that there was no way that they could ever be integrated into society. Since they had such a close following with the Pope, people believed that they were more akin to subjects in their own religion rather than citizens.
