Oh boy may not be the most
popular movie released in 2012; Director Jan Ole Gerster stuck to the old black
and white cinematography instead of new 3d technology. No dramatic
episodes, no celebrities. The protagonist, Niko Fischer, who dropped out of law
school for some time to think about himself, stays lethargic throughout the
movie. However, these are the main features that make Oh boy one of the most
interesting movies. The modest and simple mise-en-scene reminds us Truffaut or
Woody Allen. The plain storyline is also mesmerizing people. A quirky
day-in-the-life portrait of a young man wandering the streets of modern day
Berlin is being applauded by German critics as the film of young
generation. Highly recommended for cinephiles who love fresh atmosphere of
independent movie.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s)
Stone (2001)

This fantasy film, which is the first of the Harry Potter
movie series, is one of the biggest box office hits worldwide. Directed by
Chris Columbus and screenplay written by Steve Cloves, it is the adaptation of
the novel with the same title by J.K Rowling. With a budget of tremendous
125 million dollars, talented crew such as Oscar-winning production designer
Stuart Craig and graphic artists Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima gathered to make
the fictional world to real, and the movie was set in various locations around
the U.K, including Gloucester Cathedral, Alnwick Castle, Christ Church College,
King’s Cross station, and in Leavesden Studios in the
Hertfordshire, which were chosen carefully in order to make the magical world
more believable. Furthermore, the score was composed by renowned film composer
John Williams, who wrote the beautiful soundtrack that contributed to creating
a fantastic atmosphere. It stars three young, and then-unknown actors as main
characters, who were handpicked by the filmmakers after many auditions. The
cast also includes famous actors like Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, and Richard
Harris. The production process was not always smooth, however. Then, many
British people were disapproved of the change of the book's title from the
Philosopher’s Stone to Sorcerer’s
Stone, which was changed in the U.S.A to make the name more familiar with
American readers. As a result, the actors had to shoot twice every scene
in which the Philosopher’s Stone was mentioned to avoid
further controversies over the title of the film.

A movie 'Lost in translation' was released in 2003 and
directed and written by Sofia Coppola.

It stars Scarlett Johnson and Bill Murray and was shot in
Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan.

Its genre is drama and romance. However it might not be a
typical romance but an undefined relationship in between a friendship
and love.

I saw this movie when it was released in 2003 but it was
just another boring one for me though many of my friends liked it.

In a decade, recently I had a chance to watch it
again. Having had experienced the similar feelings during my trip,
afterwards I searched for some

movies which are about travelling and encountering.
This time I could fully relate myself to the whole story and every
scene was engaging enough.

So now it has become one of my favourite movies in
10 years.

The movie describes the characters emotional states very
closely and their acting is also very sophisticated.

I like the location as well since I travelled
to Japan many times and this familiarity and my pleasant
remembrance of the city enabled me to sympathise with the film.

The last scene is the most unforgettable part and
the soundtrack, 'Just Like Honey' was the icing on the cake.

When a writer or a director is female, she tends to
translate the emotion in more subtle and delicate ways and
this flick is just a perfect example of this.

Yet if I should choose the one negative
thing, overall Japanese culture was described more or less
condescendingly in the film, even though this is not the main theme and possibly it

could be translated this oddly by the western director's view.

Basically, I really love watching films regardless
of the genre. In fact, I prefer to go theatre alone, therefore, I don’t really enjoy romance movie.
Other than few genres, I enjoy and love every kind of film. Anyway, my
favourite is action. Can you guess what my favourie film is? This is one of the
most famous action film in the world and is British film. Yes, this is 007.
The very first 007 was released in 1962. Thus, I only watch few number
oof 007 series. In fact, only 4 out of 23 seires are the film I watched.
Even though I have watched only 4 films, I really like this movie and look
forward to watching 24th 007 which will be released in 2015. There are
several elements which induce me to watch this film. Among them, the first
thing which makes this movie much more attractive for me is luxurious cars in
the movie. You can see a lot of supercars such as Rangerovers or Astonmartins.
These luxurious cars is one thing which make 007 more interesting.
Moreover, 007 is one of very thrilling film I ever seen. When you watch
car-chasing or shootout scenes, you can feel such feeling as well. All the
state of the art stuff are another thing which contributes to the film’s richness. Finally, the real
reason I love this film is related to the UK. Since the UK is one of my
favourite country, I love this movie as well. Also all the casts are very
fascinating as well. I think Daniel Craig is very good and most bond girls are
gorgeous as well. These are the reasons that I like 007.
