"Our arms stretched out of their own will, and our body whirled and whirled, till it raised a wind to rustle through the leaves of the bushes. Then our hand seized a branch and swung us high into a tree, with no aim save the wonder of learning the strength of our body. The branch snapped under us and we fell upon the moss that was soft as a cushion. Then our body, losing all sense, rolled over and over on the moss, dry leaves in our tunic, in our hair, in our face. And we heard suddenly that we were laughing, laughing aloud, laughing as if there were no power left in us save laughter" (Rand 78-79).

This quote took place on Equality's first day in the forest. He woke up and couldn't control his body. He just started spinning and spinning uncontrollably. He went swinging on branches and rolling over and over again in the moss. To top it off he started, and couldn't stop, laughing on the ground. This is important to the story because it shows when Equality really became free from the council. He was free to do whatever he wanted wherever he wanted.

How does this quote show how their society is run?
This quote shows that they are cut off from individuality so much, they are not even allowed to know what they look like.
