The theme, war, played many role in the story. It gave the readers a different view on the society the characters are living in. It also reveals the personalities of each person. Also, war that we're talking aren't the war happening around the world; instead, it's the war that rose within the society between the characters in the text. It started when Faber and Montag discussed. This showed that that Montag and Faber wanted to change their society. Their curiosity on books and knowledge drove them to this conclusion. This "war" is important because it can change their society and make people to realize that knowledge can be their "friend". During their conversation, Montag and Faber wanted to start the war within their society to help people to realize a fact. This theme was developing based on the events happening to Montag and Faber. Lastly, to most people war is bad but different circumstances will make it a "friend".

"It isn't as simple as picking up a book you laid down half a century ago. Remember, the firemen are rarely necessary" (pg. 87)
Faber explained the Montag that creating a war within their society isn't as simple as eating a cake. Yet, war can start but the result is unpredictable. People might not realize the importance of the presence of war. Their society can continue burning books. Therefore, he reminded Montag that he should think a lot before he started this "war". War is like a double-blade knife.

"Oh God, the way they jabber about people and their own children and themselves and the way they talk about their husbands and the way they talk about war, dammit..."(98).
Montag said this quote when he overheard Mildred's friends sharing their ignorant opinions about their personal life and society. He thought it was oblivious for the women to say the things they shouldn't say. This encouraged Montag to start the war and hope that people can realize how damaged the society has come to without books.

“He felt the stars had been pulverized by the sound of the black jets and that in the morning the earth would be covered with their dust like a strange snow.” pg 14

This quote was said as Montag was calling for a hospital after he had discovered Mildred unconscious due to taking too many pills. Montag described the normality the jet bombers had of flying over the city in the morning; Montag described the jets as something normal but frightening to him as he was screaming and calling for help over the telephone.

This picture shows a man destroying books, but books are creating a landscape for him to stand on. This explains that if we keep destroying books (our solid ground) then we (our society) will fall and eventually get eliminated. Therefore, in the text Montag and Faber wanted to do "something" to change this; and war is their best idea.
