Problem Question: What can be improved to motivate Chilean students to want to read literary work in English?

What are my hypothesis regarding the problem question taking into consideration the description of the problem?

I think chilean students are desmotivated to read English stories since kids. I think the overall school system in chile makes reading an obligation, so kids end up hating reading, since they associate that experience with boredom or stress.

In my opinion, the school reading system should change by making it less of an obligation and so that students have a better experience reading.

What is the purpose of this unit?

To learn about shorts stories characteristics and how to identify them. This can improve your overall reading and writing skills.

What do i think i will learn or discover in this unit?

I think i'll be able to discover new ways of reading and writing

How can i gather information to solve the main problem of the unit? Which sources can u rely on and why?

I will gather information by doing a research about the problem and the popular opinion, I can rely on statistics, surveys and my own experience so that my final conclusion makes sense.

Why do i believe this challenge or question is relevant

Because nowadays students are the future of the country and reading English authors makes you gain experience and knowledge about this language. Since English is one of the most relevant languages in the world, controlling it opens new doors for people and the country.

During this activity we had to summarize and understand the short story "The nightingale and the Rose" by answering some questions. The questions were aimed to make us reflect and be conscious about the symbols and stalystic devices present in the story. Answering these questions was hard, especially the ones that required me to search for stylistic devices, because the unit was just starting and i didnt knew all of the characteristics of the stylitic devices. But then i changed my searching method and i just focused on 4 specific stlystic devices, this gave me the chance to find the styilistic devices quicker and to also learn the characteristics of those 4 devices, so my progress was faster and i still learnt about the unit.

After finishing this activity i learnt that is easier for me to divide my learning instead of trying to learn all the information at once.

In this activity we had to create a text commentary about a short story while including the answers to some questions about the text. My group was assigned with the story "The Fall of the House of Usher" and even though it was a short story, i had trouble reading it during class, that is why i had to read the story at home. The english in this text is complex, but i still managed to understand the most part of it. The creation of the text commentary and mostly the reading of the short story, made me realize the importance of the use of stylistic devices, i now had more knowledge about all the stylistic devices due to past activities like the group work of "The Nightingale and the Rose" story, and so i began to gain conciousness about how the language is used to generate emotions on the reader.

During this activity i learnt about myself that i need full concentration to read, it doesnt matter how short the text is, i need that concentration to reflect and process the information i read.

During this last activity we had to use our imagination and knowledge of the unit to create a short story including the use of stylistic devices and then create and audiobook of the story.

The main problem here was the size of our group, the group was made by 5 teammates, so it was hard to agree about what the story will be about, the names of the characters, etc. Because of these problems of corrdinations, we were less slower in the creation of the story in comparisson to other groups. Thats why we had to finish the work at home.

The creation of this short story helped me to implement all of what i learnt during this unit about short stories and stylistic devices using my imagination.

After finishing this work i learned that i have to pay more attention to what the team says so that we can coordinate better.
