Cape Ground Squirrel

The Cape Ground Squirrel lives in the dry parts of southern Africa. These animals create burrows in the sand and hard clay. They are predominantly herbivorous and feed mainly on roots and bulbs. They also do not drink a lot of water because they get their main source of water from the plants they eat. The Cape Ground Squirrel has a long tail with coarse hair. These animals use their bushy tails like an umbrella to block out the heat of the sun. They also use their tail to fight predators.

The tail could also be helpful in the winter when it is snowing to keep dry and warm. The tail could also keep humans dry during a storm.
