Please put in some thoughts on the discussion board. For me, it was the 2003 decision to go to El Salvador and study cross cultural coaching in my PhD - dumping a job and carrying debt - prompted by my coach who simply asked, 'How much do you want to do it?'

For me it was in 2014 when I decided I would commit to studying yoga for 3 months in India. I was determined to go however my organisation was reluctant. I decided I was going (heart pounding) even if it meant loosing my job (more heart pounding!). Turned out my manager found an alternate way I could do the training and still keep my job with bonus of being paid. It was the most amazing experience and I felt truly blessed to be able to submerge myself in their culture. Michael

There have been many occasions as I enjoy pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. But the most recent was Wednesday, where I decided it was time to resign from my corporate job, a job that has become my safety net to focus my attention on growing my business as a Personal and Professional Development Coach and LCAM. My pay check, will be up to me as of the 31st August and I'm excited. Zoe

Fear is such a funny thing, isn’t it. We get so worked up over something that ‘might’ happen, rather than something that is ‘actually’ happening. I remember being fearful of resigning from a job some years ago to go back to Africa to work in AIDS education and drought relief. That fear was so unnecessary because although I didn’t know at the time, the organisation I was working for told me to take as many years as I needed and that my job would be waiting for me upon my return to Australia. Then there was the fear (in a funny kind of way) of marriage and then having children, but again, my fear was just wasted energy. I’m trying (and ever so slowly learning) to conquer fear and recognise it as a positive opportunity to learn (but it’s not always so easy), I guess that’s how we ‘earn’ our grey hair.

Last year I had an employee come to me about the thoughts he was having about taking his own life (I was a member of Mates in Construction ASIST). Over the course of this particular day there was a lot of pounding fear on my part, although hidden as I had to keep it together for his sake and go through the steps I had been trained to do because if I hadn't he may have continued with his plan. The hardest thing for me was when he called his wife and said, "Jayde, a lady I work with has to tell you something, I'm sorry"...he then handed me the phone and I had to tell his wife (who I did not know nor had never met) about what was happening to her husband.

For me it was 10 years ago when my wife asked me if I wanted to work in South Korea for a year teaching English. I was in a good but high pressured job and the income was great. I wasn't moving forward and I was becoming stressed. So I quit the job and moved to Korea. I never taught English and never thought I would. But a year later I was signing a contract for another year and on top of that we had a child on the way. The 2 years I spent there were the most educational for my life as I faced many of my fears and made some amazing connections.
Pawel

For me it was returning to study after being a stay at home mum for nearly twenty years. I was so nervous sending off my QTAC application especially as my eldest daughter was also sending off her application at the same time, apparently social death going off to uni with your mother ! I think I genuinely surprised everyone with how much I enjoyed returning to study especially myself having recently completed my honours in psychology. So much so that I have taken a slight detour from psychology in joining the LCAM cohort. Despite the genuine fear and trepidation I felt in returning to uni life the friendships I made really enhanced the experience. As it turns out my 3 older children also got over their embarrassment in running into their mum on campus and quickly saw the value in free lunch and coffee.
