It might make for an interesting discussion, but I'm concerned that this is too broad for 12 pages. I would need to discuss ethnonationalism, cosmopolitan literacies, innatism and internationalization of curriculum.

Please do chime in with any thoughts or suggestions you may have!

Hi all! Here are 2 guiding questions that I am reflecting on for the final paper.

-Have high-fidelity simulation models for pleural procedures been validated as a learning tool?
With increasing inpatient volume, it has become common for internal medicine and respirology inpatient services to request that procedures (e.g. thoracentesis, chest tube insertion) be performed by the radiology service. As such, internal medicine and respirology residents have limited exposure to learn how to perform these procedures. Simulation can assist in learning the basic steps to perform these procedures, however I am unaware of whether there exist high-fidelity models able to replicate real-life concerns (e.g., variability in the tortuosity of intercostal arteries leading to risk of injury, and possible consequent hemothorax), and if those have been validated as a learning tool.

-Do bronchoscopy assessment tools’ scores predict competency ?
Standardized assessment of bronchoscopy competency has been looked into in the past decade, as the traditional method of “assessing” competency was through a correlation with procedure volume (American College of Chest Physicians recommends 100 bronchoscopies). While some assessment tools have been developed (e.g., BSTAT, BSET), I am unaware of whether their scores predict competency.

My draft research question is:

How can we use content and language integrated learning, in or outside of immersion programs/contexts, to make language learning more authentic and meaningful?

This is still a very broad question and I'm working on narrowing it down - my work is based in CLIL and immersion classrooms and I want to take the opportunity to really dig in .

I'm interested in using authentic literacy, who we give CLIL/immersion lessons to (fancy international schools vs. public schools and government programs), effective teaching methods and assessment, and how we navigate issues of culture within a CLIL classroom. For example, immersion can be used to revitalize an endangered language or bring a language to an area where it is not spoken culturally.

I'm also interested in if and how we can make it more effective than traditional language classes, separate from content.

Draft Inquiry Question:

What are the benefits versus disadvantages of translanguaging in a second language education program?

In my experience, I find that translanguaging can be helpful for students but I'm curious about what research will have to provide on this topic. My hope is to investigate the pros and cons of translanguaging and decipher if there is a suitable perspective. Not sure if this is too much to look in to, so feedback would be appreciated!

Based on my professional experiences and completing a Master’s of Education, my main interests involve special education, congregated program classes and inclusive education.

My current teaching assignment is in a Junior Autism program. We have 6 students in our classroom and they all learn different topics, concepts and curriculum grade levels. I am always considering whether a segregated classroom is the best option for these students or if integration into mainstream programs, or full inclusion would be best. I am also curious if teachers feel prepared and supported in providing education to students living with autism. This is where my research/guiding questions come from.

What is the most successful program/classroom option for elementary students (K-6) living with Autism Spectrum Disorder?

What are teachers' perceptions of their competency in teaching elementary students (K-6) living with Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
