The purpose of Professor Green:Suicide and Me.

The purpose was to show Professor Green story in his words. He discusses how his dad's suicide affected his own life and how he comes to terms with it. It shows how his family came to terms with his dad’s suicide. To show and expose male suicide as not many people will talk about as most men keep this bottled up. The impact that the document had on me is that I have learnt how suicide affects people who have been left behind and how people who do feel like committing suicide come to that decision.

He interviews his family and friends who knew his dad and knew what it was like for him when he was growing up. This is a participatory documentary.

I think the documentary had some very good points as it tells what was going through his mind at the time it happened. He explains how his dad was in the lead up to his suicide. This can give other families the warning signs if somebody is in that state of mind. From what I got from this is thinking about how important my Dad is to me by him being there for me. I also think about families who have lost people this way. So I feel that the documentary has given the right message in that it has exposed suicide and helped people talk about it and understand and watch out for the signs if someone is suicidal.

They are using different shots. At the start they are establishing a shot from a moving train which is showing the landscape and the trees. After this scene there is a medium shot and close shot of him sat on a train going home. It then fades to an intertitle showing what the documentary is called and what it is about. It then has a view of a still image of Professor Green in his childhood.

There is archive footage of him doing a music gig and being on stage. The footage then goes to talking space interview which has a back drop of the type of place he has grown up in.

They have made Continuity errors as he is wearing different shirts and hoodies.

The film also uses fly on the wall short which is the filming in the area where he is giving people idea of the mood that is being set. More still images being shown of him and his dad. Long shot of the whole room with him sitting with his nana explaining his dad and what he was like when he was younger. As Pat is talking about how his mum and dad met when they were 15. Explaining how his dad was when he was young and how happy he was to see him when he was with his dad. As he cry's there is a close up of his face reaching. He says he wish's his dad was still around. Stating facts that 4 times as many men as women commit suicide.

This was using a talking head interview and he explains that guys bottle feelings up. Then cuts to a time lapse of people waiting round in a train station and a music bed as he explains. In this production they have an expert interview with someone from a support centre which is a safe haven for people who feel suicidal. The documentary has also used exposure by fazing into shots when going to a new place.

Student documentary Melissas story

The purpose of the production is to avoid drink driving as it can take a life because you have no control of the car. As you get in the car drunk it's your responsibility if you are behind the wheel as the loss of life from this act is really sad. As people lose many loved ones to this. The impact it has had on me is you should not drink drive with any alcohol in your system. Having just passed my driving test recently it has told me to be careful on the road look out for drunk drivers. As when it cuts to black there is sad music comes on to show the effect of the accident. This is a social action with reconstruction documentary.

At the start of the short documentary the person has used instead of an establishing shot they have used something called inter title. This is a black backdrop with text saying 390 people are killed due to drink driving. The start is very infrequent as most documentary production starts with the establishing shot.

Whilst this is going on there is music with the sound of a defibrillator in the background. This then cuts to an extreme close up which is a girl who seems to not be moving.

One mistake that people have used is that you hear are you ok sir as there is a girl siting there on the shot. They have used an extreme close up of the girl face. After it then it cuts to black. The sounds are counting. Mistake they make he says have you been drinking sir. This is a continuity error that is in the documentary.

On the scene in white text in black background is words that drink driving is one of the biggest killers on the road. Changes to person in the hospital bed to reflect what it causes if you step in to a vehicle and drink and drive.
Gives us more information. Black screen and fazes to people being interviewed.
Talking space is a type of interview technique which is being used in this documentary. First cut always.
They then use reconstruction of the two girls walking from the pub after drinking.
Then the shots move the car after and her voice telling the viewer what is going on.
Cut way looking drunk. Extreme close up of the phone while texting. Voice over narration. Cutaway to tell what she is talking about.
Cut away to car going fast. Shows the road going blurry. Active footage to show written off car. Music to show how depressing the scene is. She has got two shorts. Later on in the production they have used same shot twice which shows they have been cutting comers. One thing I did like was the reconstruction as there was a voice over explaining what was going on from the talking head interview. At the end there is archive footage which shows a car that has that been in a crash and then of where one has happened showing it on rural lane. Cuts to black after sad talking space inter view.

Is britain racist

This is a participatory documentary so the purpose of it is to expose how racist Britain can be and how people are without knowing.

As EDL don't brand themselves as racist but they are saying they don't like one race of people so my view of them is that they are wrong. Later on they test out people in different parts of England of different races. This shows what people think when they see races and religion. It has shown me that there is racism in Britain and it is happening in most places. Also how the people feel when someone is being racist to them as it shows on public transport where people are subject to it.

The production starts off with an archive footage of people being racist film on a mobile phone as the image is bad quality this of videos that was in the news. There narrative voice over. A montage of what the production is about. Inter title screen saying is Britain racist as this the name of it all. It the cuts to black with music still playing. This shows who main presenter is she a data journalist. It then starts off with an establishing short of a cafe where the presenter is sitting. It then goes to medium short then to an extreme close up of her eyes looking the computer then a close up of face. Archive footage of the EDL who she will see explaining they have racist view. An establishing shot of pub where the EDL meeting will take place. The camera shorts for the interview is close up of a 2-person interview with someone from the EDL use in a talking head shot. Then a close from her face. There is hostel atmosphere for the camera crew while they are there. This gives the views feeling they are not welcome. On the sport filming as the camera is rolling as they getting away from the EDL. Making more a point using the archive with tense music and a person talking this is a music bed. It then moves to a talking head interview as his head is at the centre of the screen. Then three reporters are sent undercover to test the public’s prejudice it shows how they are treated using secret filming when they are walking round the area. Then moves to a narration with footage of a local area and music bed to go with this. This then uses establishing short which is used for the 3 people. When they get back in the car they are using a talking head interview. Narrating events going while having them on screen for the spectator to watch with subtitles as it not really clears what he is saying. They use an expert interview to show what the expert thinks of the problems in the production.
