This creation story focuses on man and man's relationship with their surroundings. The majority of the reading talks about man and man needs. God creates man from dust emphasizing the importance of man's relationship to the surroundings. God creates the Garden of Eden for man and all of the animals. Man names all of the animals showing that they do have a relationship, but man is not satisfied and God sees this. God is able to discern that man needs more and makes a woman for the man. The vast majority of the passage discusses man and what God made for man.

God creates man out of the ground and then creates the Garden of Eden for man to live. God then creates animals as helpers to man but eventually He creates a woman which suited the man better. While God still creates the water, plants, humans, and animals of earth in this narrative, His creation process seems much simpler and takes less time.

It is important to realize that God created "human being" and not man because it shows that God thinks that both sexes are equal but reliant on each other. This nuance is highlighted when God takes a rib from the man and makes a woman. The passage then describes how the man was happy because she was made from the same bone as him. All of the repeated subtleties emphasizes that man and woman are both equal.

Social action lets us live in the image of God because it provides us with a way to help others that are less fortunate than ourselves, just as God asks. Social action also allows for reflection and contemplation where we can see everyone's worth and it helps us consider the importances of striving to live God wants us to.

I think that I can work on making the extra effort to pick up trash or say something kind to someone. I can work on trying to do the little things that can make someone's day better as well as taking free time I have to do more for my community. By doing this it will help me live more closely to God and it can strengthen our relationship even further. It will help me see his love for me, and in return I can show him thanksgiving for all of the blessings he has provided me.

Because Adam is a play on words for the Hebrew word for clay, it parallels that God made man from the same substance that he made the rest of the earth from. It emphasizes our closeness to the earth and that we should be respect stewards of it because we are not that different from it. It also shows that God loves the earth just as much as he loves us and that everything he made was purposeful and connected.

Mother Teresa teaches us how to live in "right relations" through her actions. She helped the poor in Calcutta and gave up everything she had to make others feel loved and more comfortable. Mother Teresa was sent to Calcutta and took her final vows after she worked to educate the impoverished girls to help them escape poverty. She had to lobby her way out of her covenant until she was able to leave and start her own missionary. She helped what she called the "poorest of the poor" in the slums of Calcutta. She was connected to her surroundings by bringing people off of the streets. Mother Teresa is an inspiring figure who leads me to be more selfless and aware of my surroundings. She inspires me to help others not only when it is convenient for me, but whenever their is a need from the neediest.
