The theme censorship was first brought up in the story when the woman burned herself with her books in order to protest the dystopian society. Pages later it is seen again when, Beatty came to Montag's house and talks about the history of burning books. In this scene Beatty talks about how minorities and other groups found so many things in books that were distasteful that people eventually began to burn books.
The theme censorship is important to the book "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury, because it is the reason society burns books, the reason that everybody does not have intellect or the ability to debate, the reason the Montag wants to change. We as a society can learn from this theme because, what is the freedom of speech if we have no knowledge?
