Lauda had lost control of the car and rammed it into the fencing surrounding the circuit. It then bounced off the barrier, catching fire and then was hit by the Surtees of Brett Lunger.

During the Saturday qualifying session, Villeneuve was on a fast lap to set a good time when he met Jochen Mass on the track who was moving slow. The left front tire of Villeneuve’s Ferrari hit the right rear tire of Mass’ March. The collision sent the Ferrari up skyward and then it nose-dived at a rapid pace that the car flipped multiple times over the track once it hit the ground. The impact was so rough that the front chassis was ripped off. Villeneuve was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

When making a turn around a bend, the Williams of Senna lost control, sending the car hurtling into a concrete barrier. Aryton Senna died that day a three-time world champion.

Going 306km/h, Webber’s front right tire caught the rear left tire of Heikki Kovalainen’s Lotus. This collision sent Webber airborne, and the car flipped in the air. The RedBull of Webber then skid across the boundary and crashed into the barriers.

On a rainy day in Japan, the Marussia of Bianchi had spun of the track and straight into a crane that was recovering another crashed car. Jules Bianchi did not survive his crash.

During the second lap of the Belgian Formula 2 race, Hubert’s Arden clipped a car in front of him sending him hurtling into the barriers. His car hit the barriers at an odd angle which forced the car to bounce back onto the track. In all the chaos, the car of Juan Manuel Correa rammed into Hubert’s car at 257km/h. The force of the impact caused the car to split in two. Hubert later died at the hospital.

Grosjean lost control of his Haas and drove into an unprotected barrier at 193km/h causing the car to go up in flames. He was trapped in the fire for 28 seconds and the chassis of the Hass split into two.

After the Mercedes of George Russell clipped the Alfa Romeo of Guanyu, the car flipped and skid across the gravel trap at high speed. The car then flipped over the barrier and was caught by the high fencing protecting the grandstands.
