One of my arching goals as a future educator is to always motivate my students. I want to make sure that I always motivate my students to reach their highest academic potential. This is important for me to do because some students may not have a motivator at home therefore, some students forget about their potential. I want to be the teacher who reminds them of just how capable they are of achieving.

I can achieve this goal by making sure to be enthusiastic about my teaching techniques and by creating lesson plan that will encourage student participation.

2. Model a Growth Mindset

I want to always remind students that it is okay to make mistakes because mistakes help us grow and develop. I want to make sure I teach my students to view failing as a learning opportunity and that it is ok to fail sometimes. I have learned from one of our assigned readings titled What are Mindsets and How Do They Affect a Classroom" that an educator’s mindset directly influences how a child feels about him or herself" which is why this is important for me to teach my students a growth mindset. Students who foster a growth mindset are taught to embrace challenges, and failure are viewed as a learning experience. A growth mindset will not only help them academically but as well through out their lives.

As a teacher, I can achieve this goals by adjusting my own mindset into my personal life. I can also create a support group with other teachers who also want to teach a growth mindset to their students.

3. Ensure to always celebrate student growth.

I want to make sure that as a teacher I always celebrate students academic growth no matter how big or small their achievement may be. It is important for teacher to celebrate all of their students milestones without any biases. As I read in Culturally Responsive Teaching Chapter 4, some teachers make the assumption that students from a certain background or social groups have more intellectual ambitions than others. This can result in only celebrating the big milestones from students who always tend to achieve anyway, neglecting the small but important mile stone from other students. As a future teacher I want to ensure that all miles stones are celebrated even the smallest milestones because they lead to overcoming bigger milestones and serves as motivation for students.

I can achieve this goal by making sure I keep my pedagogy techniques fresh. Adding new techniques or strategies to my teaching can definitely help students achieve their goals faster.
