Why is it used?
Formative assessment is a method of determining whether students have grasped a concept and if it is okay for the students to move onto the next concept or activity. Teachers can conduct formative assessment during lessons by taking breaks in between instructional time to ask students questions that help the teacher determine whether the students are ready for a new set of concepts.

2) What is an example of formative assessment?
Some examples of formative assessment could be to ask the students to give thumbs up or thumbs down signals when concept-checking, have them summarise information they have just been taught by writing down their summaries or sending them through a chat box during online learning, and getting students to share their understanding of something through the use of drawings.

3) What is summative assessment? Why is it used?
Summative assessment is a method used to determine whether students have grasped learning content over a set period of time (a month, a term, a semester, etc.). Teachers are able to use information gathered over a period of time to complete yearly summative assessments and share them with parents, students and other education professionals.

Some examples of summative assessments could be end-of-unit tests, cycle tests, mid-term exams, final exams.

Assessment for Learning is the process of assessing students' understanding of content by asking them content-related questions during class, asking them questions on an individual basis and having general conversation about the content. This helps teachers identify what parts of the content need to be revisited and help teacher better plan for future lessons. Students are also required to self-reflect on the work they do and work on their personal learning goals and striving to achieve those goals instead of competing with their peers.

Some examples of Assessment for Learning are self-assessments and peer assessments. Another way could be for students to write pieces on information they have already acquired.

5) What is "assessment as learning"? Why is it used?
Just like Assessment for learning, Assessment as Learning (ASL) is an on-going process that happens throughout the course of a certain time. For this type of assessment, students are required to self-reflect, assess and direct themselves on a path towards their learning goals.It is mostly student-led.
