         <description><![CDATA[<div>Rous (Routh) (Rous) Francis (October 5, 1879, Baltimore - February 16, 1970, New York) - American pathologist and oncologist, Nobel Prize winner (1966). He graduated from Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan. He discovered (1911) the first oncogenic virus (named after him), causing chicken sarcoma. Investigated the role of viruses and carcinogenic substances in the etiology and pathogenesis of tumors. He worked at Rockefeller University. He received the Nobel Prize for the discovery of oncogenic viruses together with Charles Huggins, who was awarded for the discovery of the hormonal treatment of prostate cancer.</div>]]></description>
