         <title>The importance of Planning!</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students often struggle to see the importance of planning out a project and are shocked to find that the outcome is not what they had hoped when they jump right in. For example, my Planning 10 class is completing tri-fold posters for a health fair. Students were told they would only receive resources once and would not be given extra so to visualize and plan the design of their poster before they begin. Sure enough the students who began building right away made mistakes and were upset with the outcome of their design. Students who took the time to think and mentally place the decorations and writing before completing the action had a higher success and satisfaction rate then those that did not.       -Kelly Nichols</div>]]></description>

         <title>Food for thought</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I would like to echo Kelly's comments. I often find that students are quite resistant to planning and don't realize the impact it can have on their final product on a given task. Perhaps this is a wild assertion, but I think there is a sense of detachment as a result of technology that has built a resistance in students to plan. They are so focused on the end product, that they don't seem to engage as much in the process- I see this in my English classes all the time. There is something to be said for planning for an activity, or in my case, writing piece, by hand. Annotating a text and creating an outline by hand can be really productive. Digesting and mentally organizing material in this manner is so meaningful. Then, technology can be used to create the final product. Just a thought. Would love to hear from others' experiences.          <title>Visualization in Sports-Caleb</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Growing up playing sports I have often heard coaches talk about 'visualizing' a movement. Picture yourself sinking the shot. Imagine kicking the ball. Daydream about crossing the finish line first. <br><br>I always discounted this as something hippie players would do. Sitting down and picturing how to serve the volleyball. Why not just stand up and actually practice serving the volleyball?  Yet as time has progressed, I've started to see some of that value. This presentation really confirms for me that my childhood coaches were onto something. We are able to program our minds to some degree when it comes to physical movements. In my current role now as a coach, I often show players the proper mechanics on a action, I am now going to have them visualize themselves making that action, before actually trying it.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Positive thinking</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think this also gets to the heart of the idea of positive thinking. I have always found that the students that improve the most build up the self-confidence to do what they couldn't do before. They 'see' themselves completing the task at hand. As teachers we should not underestimate how much our encouragement can affect our students. If they can build that confidence and picture themselves achieving their goals, it will increase the likelihood that they actually fulfill them. - Ismail</div>]]></description>

         <title>Think before do</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I've often had a difficult time in getting students to think about their actions before they actually engage in them, especially in my applied skills classes (like digital media). When I have managed to accomplish this, I have found students are better able to engage with their tasks or accomplish their goals. I can see this now relates to what was illustrated above, as the thinking would be the "first" time doing it, and the actual action the "second" time.<br><br>What this reinforces with me is that I have to double-down on the planning portion, as it clearly benefit students' abilities to learn and accomplish tasks.<br>Jon</div>]]></description>
