I would make sure I have positive statements when I teach and can break down lessons into small simple chunks so that struggling students can work slower to gain confidence. I would also keep encouraging my students and reflecting back on their work to see their progress throughout the year.

I plan on having frequent check ins with my students where they can be fully honest in explaining their level of confidence with regard to various concepts. If I notice a student is lacking confidence, I will give them an opportunity to facilitate our check in meetings through journal entries. This will make them more comfortable in sharing their thoughts and feelings, and over time they will be more willing to verbally open up.

I think for students lacking confidence, they need more praise. Sometimes sneakily checking the students work to make sure they have it correct, and then calling on them to say the answer outloud, and giving praise is a great confidence boost.

If they’re not confident, just showing them progress they’ve made and supporting them in their academic endeavors would help boost that.

During this time show students what they might be excelling in and then if students are lacking in an area content then give them resources and show them the areas on which they improved. Show them their work and that just reassures them that they’re really good in an area. If they’re lacking help them out and don’t just yell or get mad at them.

I can ensure my students feel confident with their abilities by modeling and encouraging an “I can” attitude. I will ask my students how they feel about themselves, what they feel confident on, and what they want to work on. I will also model mistakes in my own actions and never be ashamed to apologize for mistakes I will make. If I notice a student is not confident, I will start by asking what I can do for that student. Next, I will take into consideration what they are struggling with and find specific ways to help them build their confidence.
