I hesitated and checked with my mentor before allowing students to enjoy the butterfly emerging because I thought my job was to follow the lessons exactly as written. My advice: Teaching can be messy work. When there is a teachable moment, follow it. Things happen throughout the day that you simply cannot plan for and that is okay. Take a deep breath and incorporate what you did not get to in the next days lesson. You will make mistakes, but this is an important lesson for you and the students to learn.
