Q1: One strategy that we think is very important, is through modeling. When teaching students a new language it is important that students are more likely to acquire language skills when they are around people speaking the language that is being taught. Another strategy that would be good is predictable routines and using learning centers, so that your students can engage in hands-on-activities that helps them obtain additional experiences in using their new skills.

Language can be unspoken. Any written, carved, or spoken communication between people. This could also include reading, writing, listening, speaking, gestures, and cultural norms. Each language has it's own forms of phonemes (units of sound), morphemes (smallest unit with meaning), syntax (grammar), semantics (meaning of words and phrases), lexicon (word choices and vocabulary) , and pragmatics (accents and timing of conversation).

Kristin, Allison, Sarah, MadisonHow is language taught and learned? Language is learned by the experiences throughout the environment around you. The culture and people you surround yourself with will influence your language and dialect. We pick up on non-verbal cues from being enclosed by a specific culture. Children learn a language when they are young and continue to advance their language as they grow older. Language is taught through family, friends, and people who surround you. It can be learned anywhere, not specifically in school, although that is where you might get your explicit instruction.

How is language taught and learned?Language is learned in multiple ways. We begin learning language and picking up on different sounds from birth. Additionally, we learn language through education, interacting socially, being submersed into the language, and given opportunities to use language. It is effective to teach language through explicit teaching and modeling, and when students are given opportunities to do shared learning, and independent learning. I do, we do, you do is a great strategy to use. Furthermore, language should be taught within cultural context. Language is also learned through your views and experiences with the culture. Teachers should also be sure to teach to all of the learn styles (visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic).
