Photosynthesis is the most important chemical reaction in the planet (far as most life.)

The most important thing to know is how and where it happens.
So, the plant starts out by converting light energy (that has been collected by the plant) in to chemical energy. The energy is stored, it's stored as glucose (a simple sugar or a carbohydrate) it happens in plants and algae.
Plants need light energy, carbon dioxide, and water to make this chemical reaction happen in the plant. In the plant there is a tiny organel that is part of a cell called the chloroplast, and there is chlorophyll (that's what makes the plant green.) The chlorophyll uses the energy to make that sugar from using the sun light, carbon dioxide, and the water to make the sugar. So, what happens during this process, well it's simple. In this diagram
Energy []
\/
carbon
dioxide + water== glucose oxygen
