         <title>Events That Lead to the Revolution</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Sugar Act (1764)- Parliament decided to tax refined sugar and many other colonial products.<br><br>Stamp Act (1765)- Parliament placed a tax stamp on all colonial printed material, documents, and playing cards<br><br>Townshend Acts (1767)- Parliament started to place a tax on tea and other necessities<br><br>British Troops Stationed in Boston (1768)<br><br>Boston Massacre (1770)- a fight broke out between British soldiers and a Boston mob, and five colonists ended up being killed March 5, 1770<br><br>Tea Act (1773)-  To help one of the British empire's companies, The East India Company, the British flooded the US market with lots of their tea. This hurt many US merchants and there was an extra tax placed on the imported tea.<br><br>Boston Tea Party (1773)- To protest the Tea Act, the Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans on December 16th, and dumped hundreds of chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.<br><br>Intolerable Acts (1774)- Parliament enacted four acts on the colonies. The first was that they had to pay for the tea ruined in the Boston Tea Party, two British soldiers couldn't be put on trial in the colonies, soldiers could be stay in private homes, and there wasn't as many elected offices in Massachusetts.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Continental Congress Meets (1774)- American leaders meet to plan resistance against the British and discuss the possibility of war. <br><br>Battles at Lexington and Concord (1775)- where the first shots were fired between the British and the Continental Amy. Takes place in April and May.<br><br>Battle of Bunker Hill (June, 1775)<br><br>Thomas Pine's Common Sense (1776)- A pamphlet that criticized the British and monarchical government.<br><br>Declaration of Independence signed (July 4th, 1776)<br><br>Battle of Trenton (December 26. 1776)- Washington crosses Delaware and it's here that US has successful surprise attacks against British ant morale is boosted.<br><br>Battle of Saratoga (October, 1777)- Major victory for US army<br><br>Treaty of Armity and Commerce with France (1778)- France provides guns and troops to US and greatly helps them.<br><br>Battle of Yorktown (October 19, 1781)- The last battle of the war where Britain surrenders.<br><br>Treaty of Paris (September, 1783)- After two years of negotiation, the US and Britain sign a peace treaty.</div>]]></description>
