Epigenetics is the study of changes in gene function without altering the DNA sequence. It ultimately affects gene expression and has several working mechanisms.

One mechanism is DNA Methylation. This is where a methyl group is added to the DNA cytosine base and works to "silence" the gene.

Another mechanism is known as histone modification. This is where the histone proteins that DNA is wrapped around are altered. These changes affect gene expression and regulation.

Epigenetics and all its mechanisms are important for various fields in biology. It has an impact on human development, mental health, medical advancements, environmental changes, and more.

Epigenetics seems to be a topic that still needs to be expanded upon. Although there is plenty of research, information, and data, the subject itself is still relatively unexplored. The application of epigenetics is not widely used in clinical settings and will become increasingly more common in the future. Health care professionals are still learning about its impact and how to maximize on the effects of epigenetics. Overall, it was a very interesting topic to read about, and I would love to know more about how it will be applied in clinical settings!
