Independence Day in Argentina was declared on July 9, 1816.
 
 Argentina´s Independence Day is a public holiday and there are no school or government operations on this day. Many people have the day off of work and school.
 
 There are parades and military exhibitions, and some cities have outdoor festivals which include fireworks, and music and dancing.
 
 In Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, takes place one of the largest ceremonies. Many people gather every year to watch parades and join together in celebration. Other cities celebrate Argentina National Independence Day with smaller gatherings which might not involve fireworks or extravagant festivities.
 
 Many families have also developed their own Independence Day traditions, where they have a meal or a feast and spend the day together. Independence Day in the United States was declared on July 4, 1776. It is a day of family celebrations with picnics and barbecues. Other activities include watermelon or hotdog eating competitions and sporting events, such as baseball games, three.legged races, swimming activities and tug-of-war games.
 
 Many people display the American flag outside their homes or buildings. Some communities arrange fireworks often accompanied by patriotic music.
 
 Some employees use one or more of their vacation days to create a long weekend in order to travel to their favorite beach or vacation spot.
 
 Independence Day is a federal holiday. If July 4 is Saturday, it is celebrated on Friday, July 3. If July 4 is a Sunday, it is celebrated  on Monday, July 5. Government offices and schools are closed. Some shops may also be closed.
