The savanna features two seasons, a rain season (summer) and a dry season (winter). During the rain season, the climate here is hot and wet. During the dry season, the climate is warm with little to no rain. Depending on its distance from the equator, the savanna can see between 20 to 80 inches of rain. Closer to the equator, the savanna is full of tall grasses, and many trees. Closer to the outer edge of the savanna, it is very dry with shorter rain seasons resulting in scattered grasses and trees. This wet, tropical climate stretches along the equator from Guinea in the west, to the great Rift Valley in the east. The average temperature in the tropical rain forest is around 80 degrees Fahrenheit ( 27 degrees Celsius). The average rain fall can be between 60 and 120 inches (152-304 centimeters)! Constant rainfall, as well as warm temperatures, help this region to thrive with lush plant growth as well as a diverse species of animals. Although plant life is diverse here, do not be fooled, the soil in the tropical rain forest is poor due to a process known as leaching.
