The growth of Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms has presented a growth in society that reflects the overall rise of participatory communication. Those who utilise and interact with these platforms are adapting to communicating and engaging with others through a more open and interactive environment. Users of these platforms are becoming the producers of culture and in-turn allowing the development of an active audience drawn to specific culture product.

Participatory communication has also changed the way we interact with online communication tools. Many of us do not just post whatever we feel. We each individually censor and personally critique what we wish to allow as content for others to view. This is due to nature of the online society that has been created at present. We no longer want to allow others into a online world that we have not created and developed to meet our own personal needs.

Instagram and Wordpress have developed a growth in the idea of everyday celebrities. People who are interacting with participatory platforms such as Instagram, are allowing other users to enter a specific environment which they have developed to entertain and draw in a certain audience or demographic. These users who are actively engaging with the cultural products created by these producers of content are affectively establishing a following and developing a idealist relationship with the producers.

Food bloggers are perhaps the best example of blogging and social media participants who actively developed into societies perception of a online celebrity. Now more than ever we interact on a daily basis with these participatory celebrities whether it is through their Instagram feed or through reading and utilising there recipes which we may have found from their blog. The idea of food bloggers and participatory culture is one that best encapsulates the growth of blogging and social media celebrities.
