Due to the dramatically high unemployment rate in Detroit at the time (9.2% EST)(Fred.Stlious 2015) in 1998, as well as of a poverty rate of (32% EST)(husudser.gov 2009) in the area where Eminem grew up (Fred.Stlious 2015).

Eminem’s Loose Yourself is a motivational song in which portrays the hardships he had to overcome, Eminem stayed motivated and understood that rapping was his one shot in life that could break him out of the shackles of poverty and social inequality within Detroit. He says "Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment would you capture it or just let it slip". These Lyrics are meant to inspire his audience as he understands there are many others who grow up every day with similar disadvantages as himself. Eminem wants these lyrics to motivate his audience to obtain their goals and not ever let anything hold them back as "You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow this opportunity comes once in a lifetime". By obtaining your goals he motivates us to create a better life for ourselves and eventually make an effort to repair the social inequality, racism and make a social change within society just like has done himself.

Eminem after being noticed by Doctor Dre had to travel, therefore, it created a lot of drama with his wife, and being unable to provide for his family nearly made him suicidal.

In Eminem's early carrier he was an outcast on the rap scene as it was perceived that only blacks could be rappers, therefore Eminem struggled to gain acceptance on the Detroit rap scene. It seemed there was a cultural shift towards racism agaisnt whites, particularly in Detroit when it came to racism. This was a roadblock in his carrier but he never stopped and kept pushing forward to capture his dreams.

In the song Eminem also portrays the problem with being a superstar the pressure of the media and how it can strike loneliness, the pressure can be unbearable and this could be the reasoning behind the multiple celebrity deaths/ suicides recently such as Avicii and Kate Spade. He expresses the problem is people expect you to keep producing bigger and better things as "It only grows harder, only grows hotter". When working harder Eminem had to sacrifice more things such as family life, leading to forms of loneliness, which is experienced by every artist at some point in time.
