-Third parties can be difficult to make depending on each state. Some states require many signatures, and some have really early deadlines for the signatures. Even in some states major parties have rules to allow them to keep third parties off of the ballot.

1826- A third party emerges from anti-Mason resentments.

1832- Federalist Party dissolved. Democratic party splits into Democrats and Whigs.

1840- The anti-Mason party dissolves.

1854- Anti-Slavery activists from the Democratic, Whigs, and Free Soiler parties meet and create the republicans.

1856- The Republicans begin to replace the Whigs.

1890- Republicans and Democrats are accused of falling under the sway of financiers. New third parties begin to spring up, all promising change.

1892- Angry farmers launch third party, the people’s party- or the Populists

1900- Middle Class folk create “the Progressives”

1912- Roosevelt and Taft create the Bull Moose Party after losing an attempt to regain the Republican vote.

1914- The Bull Moose Party falters with the loss of Roosevelt.

1948- Southern Democrats create the Dixiecrats.

1996- Ross Perot runs under the Reform Party
