Models of Curriculum Construction (Week 5)

Assalamualaikum and good morning. Today's weather is very sunny and i felt like want to get an ice cream.

So, this week in the class of EDU555 we learnt about the models of curriculum construction. We've just learn that there are 4 models of curriculum instructions which are The Tyler's / Objective model, Interaction or dynamic model, Taba's model and contemporary model. These models will be references for us to construct instruction or course design especially in to develop a new programme. The difference between these model is actually the process or the steps of implementation. In Tyler's model the steps of implementation is too rigid because we have to follow the steps in order. Meanwhile, in the interaction or dynamic model which is modified from Tyler's model the sequence of implementation is flexible, we need not to follow the steps in order. In Taba's model it is almost similar to Tyler's model but the difference is there are 7 major of steps. Based on the 3 models, the contemporary model develop 5 mojor steps of implementation that involving the feedback.
So, thats all for my entry this week.. Thank you for your time.

It is quite nervous to know that my turn is number 4 for the first week of microteaching. I feel excited and anxious at the same time.

So, this week we have our consultation of lesson plan with our instructor, Sir Furkhan. There are many parts that I have to fix. Lesson plan is very crucial to an educator or teacher as a guideline for the teaching and learning session in the class. This is to ensure that a teacher and students can achieve the goal of learning in the meantime.
After my lesson plan has been approved, I start to prepare for my teaching aid material that I will use during my microteaching.

So, thats all fot this week entry. But I got some critics from our instructor which is time management, my teaching aid material is too small, my handwriting on the whiteboard and communication with the audiences.

Hence, in my next microteaching I should improve my weaknesses

CIPP Model for Evaluation (Week 8)

I felt exhausted from the hectic week because this week too many events are going on. A mountain of assignments to submitted and tests to be seated on. Oh yeah this week also we are having the test 1 for EDU555. I admitted that the test is quite confusing for the objective parts. However, for the subjective parts, I thought that the questions were on moderate level. It is not too easy and not too difficult for us.

Anyway, the title for this week lesson is the evaluation for curriculum. In order to know the effectiveness of a particular curriculum, we should get feedback from the outcomes of the curriculum. This could be done by evaluation of the curriculum. Evaluation of curriculum means that making judgement of desirability changes of the students and uses the information to make changes in curriculum or change the method of teaching. There are two types of evaluation which are formative and summative evaluation. the difference between these two evaluation is formative is evaluation of on going program, but for summative evaluation is evaluation at the end of the program to see the effectiveness of the program.
Hence, to make evaluation for these two types, Daniel Stufflebeam has introduced CIPP Model in 1966 for guiding formative and summative evaluation.

Hello Assalamualaikum we right back after 1 week of midsem holiday. So hows your holiday?
I hope everyone enjoy your holiday.
So, Monday blues again this week. However, that is okay because we have EDU55 subject to catch up with. Can't wait to resume our lesson right?

This week, we learned about Instructional Objectives aka goals that teacher sets or want to achieve when you are giving instructions or in teaching and leaning process. Instructional objectives make definite the direction in which teaching leads and become the focus of instructions, not only for teachers but also for students. This instructional objectives will help teachers and students so that the process of teaching and learning wont be deviated form the main goals.

There are two format of Instructional objectives which are:
1) Mager format of instructional objectives.
2) Bloom's Instructional Objectives.

1) Mager format of Instructional objectives
Mager format of instructional objectives are said must be OBSERVABLE and MEASURABLE..This means that there are changes in terms of behaviour (using verbs that denote observable action)., testing situation (i.e under what conditions he will able to do it) and performance criteria (indicating correctness, speed, rate of response).
Mager format of instructional objectives should use precise words or specific words that can be measured specifically (i.e list down 3 examples of amphibian). Avoid using vague or general words to write instructional objectives for instances, to understand, to appreciate, to enjoy, to feel, etc..

2) Bloom's Instructional Objectives
Bloom proposed that instructional objectives should be in term of behaviour classifications. He divided the objectives into 3 domains:
1) Cognitive domain: knowing fact and information.
2) Psychomotor domain: performing physical skills.
3) Affective domain: exhibiting persoanl attitudes.

Blessed and be thankful to God. This week we gonna have Prophet Muhammad's Birthday... So yeahhhh its holiday again this Tuesday.
But dont ever forget to read your notes.
so this week we learnt about exciting title which is instructional materials. Realize or not, back when in your school time, everytime your teacher want to start a lesson she or he will use any reference book whether it is text books, or any eligible references to guide in teaching and learning session.Maybe some teachers will prefer to bring some interesting materials such as diagrams, objects, prototype and etc... This will increase and grab students attention to learn in the class. Why do we need instructional materials?
Because we remember on average:
1) 10% of what we read
2) 20% of what we hear
3)30 % of what we see
4) 50% of what we see and hear
5) 80% of what we say
6) 90% of what we say and do

ASSURE MODEL
This model is intended to as guide to design instructional materials and assure affective use if media and materials in instruction.

A- Analyze Learners
In this context, the teachers or educators need to identify the background of learners (who are they, what knowledge, skills and attitudes )
S- State Objectives
In designing instructional materials we need to steer clear of our aim and objectives to achieve what to be measured. Well stated objectives consist of audience, behavior, conditions and degree.
S- Select methods, media and materials
U- Utilize Media and Materials
involve in teaching students how to make use of learning materials.
E- Evaluate
whether the students are learned what supposed to be learned?
R- Revise
sit back and look at the results of our evaluation and gathering.

From my experience in designing instructional materials for the past microteaching, we should considers in terms of small details, not only about the content of itself, but also need to check the font of the words. Sometimes, we dont realise the fonts are too small to be seen from the distance, this culd be a distraction to the students and loose their motivation in the class to follow your lesson. It also should be in colorful and interesting to attract students in the class to focus.

Throughout the 6 weeks of microteaching, I can see that there is a gradual improvement in terms of time manangement, beautiful and attractive instructional material, exciting activities and I want to give a big applause towards their level of confidence. Every week I can see every person's improvemet.

Upon finishing microteaching, our instructor started to briefing about another assignment that should be done to complete this course which is course design. Sigh...
Another assignment in this hectic week. Course design is the process and methodology of creating quality learning environments and experiences for students. Through purposeful and structured expose to instructional materials, learning activities, and interaction, students are able to access information, obtain skills, and practice higher levels of thinking.
So, basically we have to design or run our own program as a whole on what we want to achieve. Tylers Model will be a guideline to us to design the course.

How time fast flying. Realized or not we are already in week 14. Final exam just around the corner.
Just before we ended this course I want to give my opinion about this course.
Throughout one semester I engaged in this course, I got to learned on how to write a lesson plan properly. I came to know that lesson plan is very important in teaching and learning session as lesson plan serves as a guide to teacher and students so they will not be deviated from the main objective. I learned how to discriminate between learning objectives, learning outcomes and success criteria which is compulsory in the lesson plan.
Upon finishing lesson plan, we put lesson plan in action. Microteaching. Its good to be in this course since that we can practices being as a teacher in front of the class. I actually prefer microteaching rather than presentation in front of the class. Microteaching help me to get the real situation of teaching students as in school. Microteaching also give me chance to practice to teach in front of the class.
Beside that, I also learned to design a course. This helps me to be more like creative and critical thinking.

I recommended that maybe this course can give students more practise for microteaching but not just in the class, but in the real school. So, that we can be more comfortable and more confident in delivering our instruction. Other than that, I would recommend that course design should be done before microteaching so that there will be plenty of time to think for an idea to design the course.

In the nutshell, I enjoy the class of EDU555. Thank you a bunch for our instructor Sir Furkhan Mat Salleh for his dedication.
