A social issue is when somebody is having trouble with other people in their life or even a stranger. Somebody might tell them that they can't participate in an activity because of their gender or they look a little bit different, but that does not mean that they are not a human like you. Sometimes people might say " Ha! they run like a girl!" For some strange reason, people always refer to girls as the slow, non-athletic gender, but we are not! People think that women shouldn't have jobs like an engineer, construction worker, or something that is thought to be for men only. I do not understand why people feel this way about a different gender or skin tone, it's just not right!

- Sydney Fingerman

A social issue is something that has to deal with a problem that has to do with another being. Social issues are bullying , someone treating You like something you're not, acting a certain way to be accepted, or making fun of the things you love. Social issues are mostly caused by when people see something you have that they want because they are jealous. They think that if they treat you badly they will feel better about themselves.

-Emma Glickman

A social issue is when somebody has a problem or conflict with another person. This can happen with a fight with a friend, a disagreement, or when someone is bullying you. Or maybe you can't do something because of the way look or your gender. You have to fight back sometimes in social issues if you feel strong about the thing you are arguing about. Maybe someone will treat you badly because they are jealous of you of because you do something different then you. Another social issue could be when someone is teasing you or making fun of you because of something you do.

-Emma Thomases

Social Issues are a lot of different things. People all around you want you to think a certain way about a person or a group of people. They want you to find there flaws and focus or those instead of what really matters, the good parts of them. People make fun of you because of what you believe in, what you look like, where you came from and more. People say that you have to look and act a certain way to be noticed. People push you into doing things you wouldn't do own your own. People on social media and other websites, shows and more make it look like some people have to be a certain way. Humans like this are wrong. You shouldn't be judged by anything but whats on the inside. Don't listen if people tell you to be a certain way. Ignore them. Be yourself.

Social issues. It may mean many different things. Different situations. My definition of a social issue is a problem in society that you have. Maybe it is because the way you look. What you dress like. What you eat. What religion that you are from. Finally the most common one- gender issues. Sometimes society tells you that you have to dress and act a certain way because of your gender. They might make assumptions about you based on stereotypes. For example, imagine that you are a 10 year old girl. When you meet new people, they might assume that you like certain things, dress in some sort of way, and the way you play sports. Now think that you are a boy. You are 10. When people look at you, they might think a certain way. Maybe, you are athletic. You are strong. You like this. You like that. You must be good at this. This is where the expression "Man Up" comes from. It shows that men are supposed to be masculine and strong. It also shows that society have these expectations of people on there looks, gender and sometimes even cultural differences or nationalities. If your are a quite bony person, society makes assumptions like this person doesn't eat. If you are a different color of skin people may also make many assumptions about you. A lot of people have stood up to these rights. I believe if you want something very bad, you should fight for it. Take women's rights. We fought for many years, and finally got our right to vote and own property. Slaves acted for their rights. Blacks ended segregation. Yet social issues still set these expectations up. No, not all girls play with dolls. Or love pink. Or sew. Some may like to skateboard and love the color black. No, not all boys like sports. Or pushups. Some boys like pink and to draw. Some people with autism CAN read or write. It is true. Don't believe it? You should. I think this world would be a better place without the people who judge. I think that they should not assume, and learn about a person from the inside. To learn from mistakes. To not judge a book by it's cover. To see if the food that you think looks gross tastes good. That is what I think, are social issues.

                     -Sophie Liu 5-F
