Julius Caesar

Another person on my list was Julius Caesar, he is on the list because of his battle strategies and, him being on the most famous leader/emperors ever. Julius Caesar was born into a poor but novel family which were patricians. When Julius Caesar was sixteen his father had died which made the head of the family teaching him how to take care of himself and others, keeping people safe becomes important when you are an emperor. Julius Caesar came to power when he was returning to Rome and defeated the Pompey’s and was unchallenged when he got to Rome, so he elected himself director and absolute ruler of Rome and its territories. Later, Julius Caesar became famous for his conquering of Gaul (Modern day France and Belgium.) Julius Caesar also did things such as giving one person all the power (Himself) which led to the roman empire which later to become one of the biggest and strongest empires of all time. Other reasons why Julius Caesar is on my list, and accomplishments done by Julius Caesar are that he decreased Rome debt and made well needed government reforms, he also sponsored the building of the Forum Lulium. Furthermore, Julius Caesar also rebuilt two city states Carthage, and Corinth. To add on to that Julius Caesar also gave citizenship for foreigners living within the Roman Republic at the time. Lastly, with all these reasons above combined, I believe that Julius Caesar should easily be top three best emperors of all time.

Alexander the Great

The leaders that I have chosen are the most important because they do most things in their own way, but one thing that similar among all is that they were all great conquerors, and leaders for their own people. An example of this is how Alexander the great was able to conquer so much land in so little time. Alexander started his life being born to Philip second of Macedonia, from Alexander birth his farther wanted him to become something, so he made Aristotle his teacher. With the teaching of Aristotle Alexander was able to learn how to think outside of the box. From this alexander was able to create a battle plan that led him to win every battle he fought. The plan that Alexander produced was having not just one type of army like people on horse, but instead to have people on horse and archers, and people with shields. Having these mini armies, he was able to deal with any tough situation and lead his army to a win. He was able to win these situations because of his army and the way they trusted him and his battle plans. After Alexander fifteen-year conquest when Alexander was on his way home, he had died. If Alexander had not died the empire would have grown even more. The cause for his death is unknown people spouse that he got sick. Alexander is on my list because of the reasons listed above, and most importantly because in his fifteen years conquest he had never lost a battle once, and because of Alexander legacy Hellenism (The blending of cultures).

Cyrus

Finally, the last person on my list Cyrus. Cyrus was born in six hundred BC and was son of Cambyses. Cyrus’s grandfather was Astyages the king of the median empire. Cambyses the King of Persians which later Cyrus would be if he stayed alive until Cambyses death. A story of Cyrus is that his grandfather Astyages had dreams that Cyrus would kill him, so his grandfather ordered people to take Cyrus and throw him on top of a massive mountain where he was spouse to die, but fortunately for Cyrus was saved by some herding folks who later raised Cyrus as their own. This taught Cyrus to not trust people even if they were family, but it also it taught him to giving mercy to the poor who had nothing but love. Cyrus later took power after the death his farther. Cyrus after this expanded his dynasty into a mighty empire not just threw conquest but also threw tolerance and mercy. Cyrus is on my list because of how he was able to conquer land from all from India down to Egypt becoming the biggest and strongest empire of its time. Cyrus is not just known for his conquering of land he is also known for his great battle strategies and techniques, and mostly importantly being able to show tolerance and mercy which made less likely for people to have revolts in his empire, increasing the strength of it even more. Lastly, all three of the peoples were three of the best emperors, and military’s generals of all time.

Battle of Tours

These three events that I have chosen are the most important threw history because how still have effect on life today, and how these would have been much different if it were not for these. The first event in time I chose is the Battle of Tours. I chose the battle of tours because of how it stopped Islamic beliefs form coming into Europe. The battle took place between the city of Tours and Poitiers in Gaul modern day Spain and france. This battle was fought between the Umayyad Caliphate led by `Adb Alrahman from northern Africa and Frankish army led by Charles Martel from modern day France. This decided which religion would be more seen in Europe then and still now in the modern day, therefore the battle of tours has so much importance. The winner of the battle of Tours was the Frankish army led by Charles Martel. Furthermore, because of the Frankish army winning the battle, Christianity was found in Europe way more than Islam was, this led to the pope having way more power in Europe and being the main leader at the time. After this battle, Charles Martel was given the massive piece of land to become his empire by the Pope. That piece of land became the Frankish empire. Simultaneously, another reason this small battle still has effects to this day. This empire lost most of its power when he spilt the empire between his three grandsons. After this, the empire died out. All these events that happened right after, and hundreds of years after lead to the battle of tours being one of the most important battles that ever happened.

Spread of Islam

Another event in time I choose to talk about was the expansion of Islam. From 661 to 750 the Islamic and Arabic cultures truly started spreading, and in just a hundred years the Islamic and Islamic cultures had spread from where Persia was to all the way to Spain. Furthermore, Islam was able to spread and be followed way more because of spreading between 661 6o 750, and even though it was found later than the religions. Another reason Islam spread so much is because it did not just have its own ideas, Islam combined other ideas from other religion and innovative ideas in to one. This expansion led to Islam now being the second most followed religion in the world, if it were not for this expiation Islam would not be second, and that is why the expansion of Islam back then was so important to even now. Another reason the spread of Islam was so important is that brought they stored information that they had found in the House of Wisdom in Bagdad, this information was old writing from philosophers, architecture, and medicine. The house of wisdom and the city of Bagdad is found in modern day Iraq. The house of wisdom in Bagdad got destroyed in the Siege of Bagdad in 1258 most of the ancient archaeological evidence all got destroyed. All the reasons above and especially the leading to Islam being the second most followed religion are why the Spread of Islam was one of the most momentous events in history.

European Crusades

Additionally, another event that had a massive impact to the past and modern day was the Crusades. The crusades was ordered out by the Pope in Rome to all the Christians in Europe. The crusades had two goals one was to becomes to heal the bond with the Greek orthodox Christians and the Emperor, another was to capture back the holy city of Jerusalem. The establishing connection with the Greek Orthodox side ended up going horrible after the European crusaders sacked the city of Constantinople. There were eight major crusades between 1096 and 1291. The only crusade which ended up successful was the first were they took Jerusalem for a small period, but this is not why they are on my list. Furthermore, the Crusades are on my list because they ended up opening Europe to the rest of world. Because Europe was opened to the rest of world it was able to grow and modernize into what is today. Before the Crusades, Europe’s only piece of technology was windmills, and water wheels. After the Crusades, Europe had medicine, Greco roman architecture, and Greco roman ideas. Simultaneously, with these huge advances with technology because now Europe was opened to the rest of the world it also got plagues, and diseases such as the bubonic plague, this period was known had the Black death where over twenty-five million people had died. After this, Europe was able to deal better with plagues and understood the need more better medicines and technology. All these things achieved by Europe then and now were all dew to the Crusades, even though the Crusades did not achieve its goal then it had done more now than ever imagined before.
