         <description><![CDATA[<div>All content area teachers need to think about their discipline, curricula, and learning goals to organize their learning environment, instruction, and content. Students learn when they are in a positive, safe, organized, challenging, collaborative, and motivating environment. Every learning environment should be a conversational, thinking, hands-on, creative, relevant, and inviting space for students to learn. Small group discussions about the texts student read and their perspectives on the texts will help create an atmosphere of inquiry. Collaborative problem solving will facilitate the development of mathematical habits of mind, perseverance, decision-making, curiosity, self-monitoring, and success in learning and doing mathematics.</div>]]></description>

Teachers need to celebrate students' diversity in culture, language, reading, family, apparel, etc. Students need to be recognized as individuals. Teachers must set high expectations and scaffold lessons to help encourage students to meet their goals. Teachers need to create a safe environment within their classrooms that encourages taking academic risks. Through all these strategies students will then help motivate and engage each other later in the school year. But the teacher is the one who starts it all!</div>]]></description>
