I was very impressed by the museum, Memorial ACTe in Pointe a Pitre. Going through the different sections was an emotional experience for me. I am personally interested in the history of slavery and it hurts me, that history has been so cruel. As a white person, I feel ashamed of my ancestors, who commited cruel crimes and violations on humans rights in the past (and now). I am surprised to learn about the forgivingness of people in Guadeloupe. I thought they would hate people, who in any way could remind them of their slave owners. I truly admire the approach to life, that people in Guadeloupe have. I admire Martin Luther King and the work he did for Civil Rights in America. Meeting him, Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley in the museum made sense to me. They are an important part of history and keys to human inspiration to me.
The market was an enjoyable event, it reminds me of, how important language skills are. I feel stupid, when I barely can't ask and definitely not answer in French. I wish I knew the language to show respect and ability to reply to people who looks at me and adresses me with a smile.

The quote of the day is:
I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
Martin Luther King

Rosanna

The Memorial Acte is a museum that tells the story of the island, with particular attention to slavery. An audio guide explains the really varied and interesting exhibition of the museum. Each room collects documents and objects and videos that do not leave you indifferent, it was really a pleasant experience, helpful to know the events that have marked Guadalupe!

I liked the covered market where there are spices and typical products,it was a real pleasure both for the colors and for the clothing worn by the women sellers.

Until everyone is free, nobody is free.

The visit to the Memorial ACTe was an incredible experience to understand slave trade and slavery by taking me into deeply moving accounts of the history of people from different origins, who after all were successful in giving birth to Guadaloupean society.

This visit also gave me the opportunity to discover historical and cultural aspects of Guadalupe.

Most of all, today’s discussions made it clear how powerful an instrument relationships are to understand myself and the others, though analisyng differences and similarities.

This way of analising reality gives me the opportunity to understand how intimately connected we are.

Roberta

In the Memorial Acte we learnt the history of slavery retraced
through images, objects, videos and audio guides. really well done and
touching. an exhibition that everyone should see. A story that reminds us of
the misdeeds of Man and that slavery still survives in other forms.

Another interesting moment was the local market, it was a real journey through creole tastes, dressed in big skirts and madras' headpieces, the "doudous" invite you to smell the aromas of cinnamon and vanilla, and are the protagonists of a colorful scene. The convivial moment allowed us to taste a typical dish, exchanging ideas and as always telling pieces of life lived.

BEING FREE DOESNT MEAN TO GET RID OF YOUR CHAINS, BUT LIVING INA WAY THAT RESPECTS AND VALUES THE FREEDOM OF OTHERS

Louise

It has been an exciting day at Memorial ACT e where we have gained a broad knowledge of Guadelop's history and the way they have treated the slaves.
It was scary to hear how many slaves are still around the world.
But the bright spot was to see and hear how they kept their positive energy and unity through their music.
We also challenged our French as we were in a really cozy market.
it was nice to experience the locals in the market and get close to their specialties.
The local people were really good and sweet to speak English with us.

That the people of Guadeloup are so positive and look good in people
