The region is known for its ancient forest stands, rich flora, and fauna. The forest belongs to the national park called Küre Mountains, which comprises a diversity of geology and geomorphology, such as caves and gorges.

This location is rather quiet with very few tourists, offering great natural sites and trails of more than 480 kilometres in total length, and 762 kilometres when using alternatives. The place is significant in terms of conservation and contains numerous endemic species of flora and fauna, as well as cultural and archaeological sites.

The Küre Mountains National Park is home to a large number of animals, among which are:

- Mammals, including brown bear, European lynx, wildcat, caracal, otter, roe deer, red deer, wolf, fox, jackal, rabbit, and wild boar.

- Birds, namely songbirds and raptors, Egyptian vultures.

- Reptiles and other kinds of animals.

It houses around 30 mammals from the total number of 132 mammals inhabiting Türkiye.

There are no significant agricultural activities going on in the area of Küre Mountains due to its complex terrain covered with large parts of preserved forest lands, belonging to the national park. Nevertheless, there is some agriculture in the small territories accessible to humans, where local people grow several fruits, such as apples, pears, cherries, sour cherries, and walnuts.

Spil Mountain National Park is an important natural protected area located in the Aegean Region, within the borders of Manisa. It was declared a national park in 1969. Spil Mountain is about 1517 meters high. Due to the Mediterranean climate, the area has rich vegetation. Pine, oak, and juniper trees are common. There are also special (endemic) plant species such as the Manisa tulip, which grows only in this region. Many animals such as deer, foxes, and wild boars live in the park. The mountain is mostly made of limestone. “Weeping Rock” is an interesting natural formation in the area and is associated with the legend of Niobe. In short, Spil Mountain National Park is an important natural area that should be protected because of its nature, biodiversity, and unique features.

Belgrad Forest is a natural forest located in the European side of Istanbul, at the eastern end of the Çatalca Peninsula.

The forest gets its name from a village called Belgrad. This village was formed when Suleiman the Magnificent brought people from Belgrade after a military campaign.

In the past, Belgrad Forest was very important because it provided drinking water for Istanbul. Both the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman Empire used water from this forest.

The forest has different climates, soil types, and landforms. Because of this, many kinds of plants and animals live there.

The land of Belgrad Forest is a little hilly, but it is not very high above sea level. The highest point is Kartaltepe, with an elevation of 230 meters. Another important hill is Kokmuştepe, which is 219 meters high and located in the northeast of the forest.

There are seven dams in the forest, and small streams like Ayvat, Topuz, and Neşet. You can see trees such as oak, beech, and chestnut. Animals like red deer, jackals, and magpies also live in this forest.

The İğneada Floodplain Forests are in Kırklareli. This forest covers 3,155 hectares and it is a very special ecosystem. In winter and spring, there is a lot of water on the ground. Because of this, trees like ash, oak, and beech grow very strong and tall. You can also see alder and maple trees in the wet areas.

When we compare the forests in Turkey and Spain, we see some differences. Both countries have 'Mediterranean' vegetation. In Spain, there are many cork oaks. Turkey has large forests with pine and oak trees, but it also has rare places like the İğneada wet forests. Both countries are very important for nature in the world.

🌲 Yenice Ormanları and 🌿 İğneada Longoz Ormanları are both ecologically significant forest areas in Turkey, but they differ greatly in structure and ecosystem. Yenice Forests are vast, mountainous, and considered one of the largest continuous forests in the country, known for their dense, mostly untouched woodland and extraordinary variety of tree species such as beech, oak, and maple, as well as rich wildlife including bears, wolves, and deer. In contrast, İğneada Longoz Forests are much more unique in terms of ecosystem, as they are flooded (alluvial) forests where water regularly covers the ground due to overflowing rivers, creating wetland conditions that are rare in Europe. While Yenice offers a rugged landscape with valleys, canyons, and a more “classic” forest environment shaped by the Black Sea climate, İğneada combines forests with lakes, wetlands, and coastal dunes, supporting a high diversity of plant and animal life, especially migratory birds. Overall, Yenice stands out for its size, depth, and pristine forest structure, whereas İğneada is distinguished by its unusual water-based ecosystem and diverse habitats within a smaller area.

Located in the Sierra del Rincon, this forest is one of the southernmost beech forests in Europe and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. Its existence is an ecological miracle made possible by a unique humid microclimate along the Jarama River, which allows beech trees to thrive in an otherwise Mediterranean region.

It is renowned for its ancient trees and rich biodiversity, but it is also extremely fragile. To ensure its preservation, access is strictly limited to controlled, guided tours. It is a unique ecosystem that offers fairytale landscapes—especially during the autumn—while serving as a vital site for scientific conservation.
