         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Many technology experts agree that Singularity the moment when artificial intelligence becomes smarter than humans will occur in just a few decades. Futurist Ray Kurzweil puts that date as 2045, and that it will be equally as smart as us in just over a decade. He tells <em>Futurism,</em> "2029 is the consistent date I have predicted for when an AI will pass a valid Turing test and therefore achieve human levels of intelligence."<br><br>Robots are only as good as their makers, and sometimes those who develop them can intentionally or not program them to discriminate against others. (An extreme example is Tay, Microsoft's chatbot that, shortly after powering up, started spouting racist comments.)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><br></strong>In the way Artificial Intelligence is continuing to penetrate every area of our living and activities, machines and digital interfaces in the future will enjoy greater autonomy and power than ever before. This, in turn, can pave the way for vulnerabilities concerning <a href="https://datafloq.com/read/?q=Security#utm=internal">security</a> and misuse as well. By acquiring human-like cognitive abilities over many years machines and digital interfaces can pose a grave threat to human beings as well.</div><div><br></div><div>Though as of now machines behaving in an egoistic and biased manner just like the humans is unthinkable and mostly remained a phenomenon common to the fantasy world of science fiction, it can soon go to be a reality. Machines acquiring such psychological attributes of human can become dangerous to human autonomy and overall existence.<br><br></div><div>Artificial Intelligence of machines having full autonomy over user data can threaten <a href="https://datafloq.com/read/?q=Privacy#utm=internal">privacy</a> as such machine tools can process and utilise user data for further business purposes. AI generated customer interactions can prove to be a goldmine for the users, but such open and unrestricted access to machines to user data can have serious consequences on privacy.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Rocket Lab’s Mars mission gets green light from NASA</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Rocket Lab is one step closer to going to Mars with NASA’s approval of the company’s Photon spacecraft for an upcoming science mission. If all continues according to plan the two craft will launch in 2024 and arrive on the red planet 11 months later to study its magnetosphere.<br><br></div><div><br>The mission is known as the <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2021/06/15/rocket-lab-to-design-two-orbital-spacecraft-for-nasa-to-study-mars/">Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers, or ESCAPADE</a> (hats off to whoever worked that one out), and was proposed for a small satellite science program back in 2019, eventually being chosen as a finalist. UC Berkeley researchers are the main force behind the science part. (<a href="https://news.berkeley.edu/2021/08/23/blue-and-gold-satellites-headed-to-mars-in-2024/">You can read much more about the project here.</a>)<br><br></div><div><br>These satellites have to be less than 180 kilograms (about 400 pounds) and must perform standalone science missions, part of a new program aiming at more lightweight, shorter lead missions that can be performed with strong commercial industry collaboration. A few concepts have been baking since the original announcement of the program, and ESCAPADE just passed Key Decision Point C, meaning it’s ready to go from concept to reality.<br><br></div>]]></description>
