October 18, 1867 the U.S gained Alaska as one of there states. October 1896 a group of explorers went through Canada to Yukon a state there. Which that started a gold rush . Once the gold word spread nothing could stop those settlers from the gold. In the beginning when Russia sold it to us they didn't even want the land since it served no use to them.  President Andrew Johnson ever negotiated  with the senate and even they said yes to this idea.
