Her calling her diary kitty confuses me, because she could’ve chosen anything, and she chose kitty. I wonder if she really likes cats or has some connection to them.

Whenever Mrs. Van Daan, flirts with Anne’s Dad. I’m surprised because she has her own husband and she doesn’t need to try and get another. It also surprises me that they let Mrs. Van Daans stay at the Annexe with everything she’s done and said.

Whenever Anne heard the doorbell ring at 8, it made me feel scared and worried for her. She even said herself that she thought they had come to take them, but whoever rang it never came in or did anything.

“However, Mrs. Van Daan wanted to keep the money to buy new clothes after the war, and it took some doing before Mr. Van Daan made it clear to her that the money was urgently needed for the household.” This resonated with me because it shows how selfish Mrs. Van Daan is and how Anne is right to not like her.

What surprises me is when Anne says that they yell, scream, and that it’s abuse. That suprises me, because I thought that they would want to be more quiet for their survival, but I guess they were so mad that they didn’t care about it at the time.

What is confuses me is when everyone argues, because they should be trying to survive and stay hidden as long as possible, but they are arguing and risking their safety for stupid things.

I can relate to her because she talks about how if someone talks, it’s either annoying or is misunderstood. I feel similar because I will think about what to say for a long time and never say it because I either run out of time to say it or I overthink it too much so I never say it.

Contrasts and contradictions, because when she wanted to go upstairs with Peter I wasn’t expecting for her to lose control of her words and kind of go off on her dad. I thought she would’ve been a little mature and talk about her feelings in a more controlled way.

I feel like they both kind of overreacted, because Anne definitely could’ve asked for permission instead of being a little ungrateful and just telling him that she was going to do it. Pim also could’ve payed more attention to her feelings and not just what she wanted to do.

When she talks about a “Second Anne”. I’m just confused about why she wasn’t reckless anymore and just wanted to be gentle and loving. I wonder if she matured or something.

When she talks about how she made the letter too harsh and that she didn’t mean it. I also feel like I say things to my parents that might’ve hurt them and then after they talk to me about it I feel really bad for hurting them.

I’m surprised by how hopeful she was, she was so excited to get out of the Annex and well, she never did. I wouldn’t have been able to be that hopeful when everything that was happening was going on.

I feel really sad, because she was so close to living and the flipping police or whatever came in and took them away from the Annex. Like why can’t you just pretend to look and not side with Hitler…

“And keep on trying to find a way of becoming what I would so like to be, and what I could be, if… there weren’t any other people living in the world.” This resonated with me because it’s a really big thought for a girl her age. But it’s a very interesting thought, because she could’ve had a future, with Peter and she could’ve became an author, but she didn’t live long enough to live her life fully.
