What do we know now? (After the video)

The Palenquero Creole took a great importance, back in the 17th century, for many communities all across the Colombia's northwest. The communities that used to speak it were conformed by African slaves that escaped from the Creoles, seeking freedom. Many of those communities disappeared while the time passed, only the community of Palenque de San Basilio survived until our actual times, having 3500 speakers in their community. The Creole was 'created' out of the knowledge of the Africans in regards to Bantu (African language) and both the Spanish and Portuguese of the Creoles, nowadays the Palenquero Creole has a big importance for Palenque de San Basilio in terms of cultural expressions, religious practices, music and medical practices.

This creole is a linguistic blend, influenced primarily by English due to the islands' history of English-speaking colonists, African slaves, and indentured laborers. Additionally, Spanish, rooted in the islands' Spanish colonial past, also contributes to its vocabulary and pronunciation.

In the social side the San Andrés Creole is an important cultural part for the native in the island, however, for the Colombian goverment, the preservation of the Creole language is not important and a lot of natives are swiching to english or spanish, which will make it desapear in the future. :c

This is a case of creole continuum, where the standard language is mixed with the creole. However, Spanish and English is the standard language while the creole is used much less.

We already realize that the Creole Romani is part of Colombian multiculturalism, being a culture from Europe and due to being shipped illegally, they arrived to Colombia and settled throughout the territory. This culture has a special fixation with music and dancing which has Indian roots, although currently they focus more on flamenco. This culture can be easily seen in the Atlantic, Bogota, Santander, Valle and Nariño regions.
