Have you ever wondered how the elements hydrogen and oxygen form to make water? It seems weird, but in reality it is just a chemical bond! A chemical bond is the joining of atoms to form a new substance. Chemical bonds are crucial because it allows different substances to be formed. One of the biggest substances we need from a chemical bond is water. Without water, we would not be able to survive, we wouldn't have the ocean, and we wouldn't have the animals in the ocean.

In a Metallic bond, there is an attracktion between metal ions and the electrons. The metallic bonds allow the electrons to move freely around the nuclei. It is almost like the electrons are swimming around. The electrons do not have a structure. Metallic bonds are usually a bond between metals and metals. The properties of a metallic bond are ductile, malleable(bendable), and conductive.

Ionic bonds are formed between nonmetals and metals. Ionic bonds are formed because one atom gives an electron to the other, so both atoms can have a full valence shell. They want a full valence shell because that is when atoms are the most stable. When on atom loses an electron, and the other one gains an electron, the charges either become positive or negative. This means that opposites attract and they stick together. The properties of ionic bonds are that they are brittle, soluble, and they are good conductors of electricity.

A covalent bond forms when atoms share one or more pairs of electons. Covalent bonds usually happen between a nonmetal and nonmetals. Covalent bond is when atoms share electrons, so they can have a full valence electron. The properties of a covalent bond are brittle solids, and high melting points. They form molecules to make long chains of atoms.
