The petrol fumes from the bus were making him feel sick, he was tired of the day’s journey and
he wanted to find somewhere quiet.

Gathering information from
the text we notice that the man from America is getting fed up, drowsy and
bored from all the tension building upon him. As he hasn’t had any sleep from
traveling for more than 10 hours. Uncomfortable, Annoyed and Hungry. This is how he feels at
the moment. However, we have also noticed that in china he states “I also
wanted to find a quiet corner where I could relieve myself”. This tells us that
he wanted privacy as he may have become irritated by the constant noise of the
engine, music and people talking in a different language.

Reading this passage, I have learnt that the American man is
not happy or excited about the bus tour in china. He mentions “travelling for
more than 10 hours” this suggests that he is tired, exhausted from the trip and
feels stiff. The American man is finding it hard to adapt to the Chinese culture
and norms. He wanted to find a “quiet corner” to relieve himself when the
driver pulled over. This suggests that he wants privacy since the action he is
about to take is unusual for an American person.

The text suggests that the American man is not accustomed to
travelling on long journeys very much and this trip has left him feeling very
uncomfortable, tired and annoyed. Furthermore we learn that the American man is
looking forward to leaving the bus to reuse and stretch his limbs and to enjoy
the fresh air of the countryside, unlike the stuffy air conditioned atmosphere
of the bus.

The man from America has been travelling in a crowded bus for
over ten hours. The American must have felt tired, hungry, sleepy and nauseous as
we should also consider that the American wanted his day to end fast because of
the endless petrol fumes. At the same time he travelled with Chinese college
professors who wanted to explore the Buddhism and the birth place of Chinese
martial arts. In this final analysis, the American wanted to find a quiet
corner where he could relieve himself.

Reading this passage I've learnt that a man from America is on a bus tour in China
feels uncomfortable and exhausted as he is been travelling in an overcrowded
bus for long hours and he is not used to lots of people. However, since he
lives in America he has never experienced these sorts of packed buses, as in
America there are certain number of people that are allowed in a bus. Furthermore, as the bus driver stopped the bus by the roadside, he got off the bus desperately to feel the fresh air outside the bus and he also needed some privacy away from the crowded people on the bus.

After reading this passage, I learnt that the man from
America on his travel for more than ten hours through China’s lush countryside
felt tired, drowsy, miserable and stiff and that he suffered from lack of sleep
as he was sitting in the same position for several hours without having to move
around. I have also learnt that as the bus stopped near a roadside latrine, the
man from America wanted to find a quiet corner to himself, as he wanted some
privacy, as he was feeling uncomfortable in front of everyone else around him. This
shows that when the man was in America he never had such experience of
travelling since a long time and using a countryside latrine, which he is now experiencing
while he is in China.

In this text I have learnt about the man from America that he has been traveling for more than twelve hours, spending twelve hours smelling the petrol permeated that made him want to end his days journey end… in contrast to how the man felt from when he got off the bus feeling “sick”. The man must have felt suffocated on the “crowed’’ bus in which is another reason for why he was grateful of the fresh country air. At first when I first read the passage it sounded like the man was enjoying china’s “lush” countryside but he then started to dislike the the toxic petrol fumes and the crowded bus.
