*In my opinion this project could be a great benefit for the locals since they can access better services that are found in other cities. without merging the cities this could not be possible because of the Hukou. It could also provide more jobs thanks to the railways. However, it would create more pressure on the services as well as possibly more traffic therefore more pollution

I believe that this project will bring many benefits, not only to the people who will be moving in, but also to China as a whole. With greater and easier access to transport networks, health care and other services and facilities, not only will living standards improve, but the economy will grow as people will be able to find jobs very easily in these new industries and firms, thus reducing poverty.

I believe it's a great idea as the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. It could potentially decrease the population density in large cities like Beijing and Shanghai to decrease overcrowding in those areas. With expansion in South China, it is easier for trade with many countries in the south or those that would sail past those waters.

This megacity is going to be overflowing with people. These people will suffer from water and food shortages. Do they think they can manage to satisfy 100 million people’s wants and needs? Plus, they should deal with Beijing and Shanghai’s pollution first before they mention how they are going to solve a problem of pollution in the future.

I personally have no opinion about this news. Mega city is going to be beneficial on one side but it also entails negative impacts. It is important for governments to control this issue and maximize the benefit the country can receive

I think it’s great idea. The conglomeration will be hyper efficient. Although some people may need to be relocated, overall the greater population of people will benefit. Pollution as a result of this can easily be managed through unified policies.

 lit.

I believe this plan is a great idea that could significantly benefit the residents of the area. With faster transport links and better access to medical care and education across these several cities, it would help China's economy and the even spread of industry across the region.

Ultimately, I think the project would not be beneficial to China. The combination of 9 cities would massively increase their ability to abuse economies of scale massively increase industrial production, and residents from all cities would be able to gain external benefits - like improved healthcare and education from the other cities as telecommunications and infrastructure between them have been increased. However, the article never really stated how China will improve schooling or deal with the problem of pollution (a very harmful external disadvantage), so is not very convincing. Further, the combination of 9 cities will form an administrative nightmare, as no single city will be chosen as the primary. This means progress on the planned infrastructure projects will be very slow, and would not be worth the initial price to link up all the cities.
