Grant was born on April 27, 1822 in Point Pleasant, OH</div><div>He died on July 23, 1885 in Wilton, New York.</div><div>He born Methodist but was not a religious man.</div><div>He went to West Point military academy and graduated July 1, 1843 .<br>He would also marry and eventual first lady Julia Boggs Dent/Grant.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Lincoln appointed Ulysses S.Grant as lieutenant-general of the Union army on March 8,1864.<br>He made his reputation in Tennessee, at Fort Donelson and at the Battle of Shiloh . Of his later victories, three that stood out were the Vicksburg, Chattanooga, and the Overland campaigns.</div><div>At Vicksburg, Mississippi, Grant hoped to break the Confederate grip on the Mississippi River once and for all. If the Union controlled the Mississippi, the Confederacy would be broken in half.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
