Polyethylene is a plastic substance that does not have a natural form. It is made up of a long chain of carbon atoms with two hydrogen atoms attached to each one. It's tough, lightweight, very non-reactive, and flexible. The plastic is very popular and is very inexpensive. Polyethylene is not found in nature. This is because it can only be made up by certain substances and needs a chemical reaction for it to form.

On March 27, 1933, a scientist named Eric Fawcett accidentally made Polyethylene. He was conducting high pressure tests on ethylene when one of his test vessels starting leaking and got into the Ethylene. Polyethylene was formed over night and chemists soon found out that the plastic was very useful. The profess of it being made is the cracking of heated ethane (ethylene) with a natural gas like propane. It will take some time for the plastic to actually form because the chemical reaction is hot and needs to cool.

Due to polyethylene being very popular, it is used for many objects. Some include, plastic water bottles, plastic bags, food contains, or most things that are used to package any type of good or product. This substance has benefited society in many ways. One is that there is a really cheap way to package items or carry things. There is a lot of polyethylene in the world and can be used for many different ways, which means that there is a very good supply of it. Due to it being so cheap, people don't have to pay a lot of money to buy it or we don't even have to buy it. At the grocery store, you don't have to pay for the bags separately because of how much of them there are and because of them being so cheap.
