I am also quite unsure about whether to use ,of doing‘ or ,to do‘ (the verb do being an example here) in contexts such as:

,I like to do XY‘ vs ,I like doing XY‘

Both seem grammatically correct to me and often I just go for what sounds best for the rhythm of my text, but I cannot help but think that, likely, there is a connotation to either one.

too long sentences

I personally tend to write sentences that are too long.

As I should be specific, I shall try to make an example in this sentence by making it as long as possible, or at least as long as I do like to make my sentences sometimes, which is probably - in fact most likely - due to my liking of Thomas Mann, who is famous for writing sentences that easily cover half a page or more, which one has to reread multiple times before understanding what exactly they were supposed to mean.

I did exaggerate a tiny bit in the former sentence, but hopefully you get the idea.

I always struggle to find the right length for my sentences. I either think they are too long and I will have a L1 interference because of sentence structure or they are too short to be fitting for a term paper.
