Teaching Profession (Short Autobiography) by Christian Giango

This is me, I was born this way!

I was named Christian because of the thought that “without Christ I am nothing. I grew up as a sickly child, and as such, I was frequently admitted to the hospital and suffered in many restrictions in school. It is because my mother was having difficulties of producing a baby that time. My parents prayed to God to give them a baby. Until, their prayers turned into blessings and that’s me. Even though I have heart problems, they still called me as a fruit of prayers and gift from God.

When I was in elementary, I had several problems in school due to my illness that resulted to academic problems. I was having a hard time understanding the lessons especially when I was in 1^st and 2^nd grade. My story was quite the same to Teddy Stallard who’s having a hard time because of family problems. In my case, it’s too hard for me to comprehend the lessons for I cannot focus because of the treatment. So, I never been an achiever that time, not until when I was in 3^rd grade that my teacher gave me the chance to compete a contest (Science Quiz). Without expecting, I won and cherished the moment of first timer to feel such victory. Then, that is where my achiever journey started. Just because of the teacher’s trust, I able to meet my half-self from nothing into something showing my capabilities and talents.

My family became my weapon. They cherished me and became so protective to me, knowing that I might leave them anytime, because the doctor told them that I only have short span of life. I am the eldest, but I feel like I am the youngest. My parents are so supportive to me. Every time I competed they are always there for me, win or lose. I traveled a lot because of the competition in division, regional and even in national. Then, my parents are my number one cheerer and supporter. That is how they loved me and I loved them more, and because of their unconditional support, nothing can pave my way in achieving my goals in life.

I am a creative and ambitious young man. I have lot of ideas about my future. I am interested in various fields like managing, cooking and baking, arts and design, problem solving, and especially the field of science which is discovering and investigating things. I mostly excel in all subjects, especially in Science. I participated numerous contest and seminars because of Science. I joined Science Quiz, Science Battle of Great Minds, Regional Cebu Wildlife Quiz Bowl, Division and Regional Science Fair where I competed for my research study. I am also a Science exhibitor for two years and awarded as best in research display. My love of science takes me into different places and experiences.

All of those experiences mold me to become like what I am today. As the doctor said that my life is short, but that doesn’t fear me because that makes me more stronger and became so eager to do the things I like. It’s good to bring back those memories and experiences during the past. I understand myself more that I progressed and developed and that changed my life. I am building and earning opportunities that sprout up and that makes me feel motivated every day.

It was always a great dream of mine to take the course of education and to be a future educator and I am excited that it will become reality soon. That is why, I took education, school and my college with outmost effort because I am passionate and sincere in this field. I practiced and adapted to whatever comes in my way. Preserving good work ethics is very important for me because I will be teaching and facing different students in the future. I am not a child anymore, I already foreseen my future and becoming more matured and aware of the reality. We must take the teacher education seriously because being an educator is not just an educator, we can be the catalyst of change and instrument for spreading good quality education.
