This multi-genre project covers the sub genres that "Romeo and Juliet", a play made by Shakespeare, might have explored. This play that we have read, explores many overarching themes such as fate, love, and destiny. Yet, these themes represent the lighter, happier parts of the play. The play also focuses on darker themes. Therefore the theme of this multi-genre project prominently displays: conflict can affect not only an individual, but the people that surrounds them as well. The sub genres in this project explore the different ways conflict of the two houses affected the people within and outside them.

As we all know the two houses had many rivalries spouting between them. I have created a bumper sticker, because it reflects unwanted conflict between the two houses. The inspiration comes from the indie movie. The director had the idea of adding cars to the first conflict that was seen in the play. Therefore the bumper sticker that was created, could represent a sticker the Capulets could add to the back of their car. This would represent that the houses were aware that the conflicts that they cause not only affect them but the people around them as well.

I had chosen the bumper sticker with the caption "STAY AWAY MONTAGUES!!!", because in the entire story the two families try to not stir up a conflict if they come across each other. This is displayed during Scene 1 when Sampson says, "No, sir, I do not bite my thumb at you, sir; but I bite/ my thumb, sir" (Rom. 1. 1. 43-44). This shows that they are aware that if they quarrel, they would cause trouble for the rest of the family. But since they did, the Prince of Verona had to threaten them with the idea of exile, which was foreshadowing what would happen to Romeo later in the play.

In my interpretation of what would have happened after Romeo and Juliet died was the hatred between the families increased. Therefore, this caused the Prince to think of different ways to bring the tense atmosphere down in Verona. One of these ways was through some family therapy both the houses did together. Later, the therapy between these two houses might cause some alliances between them. This might even bring peace of mind to the Prince of Verona and the people within it. Therefore their alliances after the years conflicts, would be the peace to the people around them.

In the play the two houses agree, "Poor sacrifices of our enmity!" (Rom. 5. 3. 304). And this does not only hint the theme, but rather it conveys it. If they do understand there is wrong between both of the houses, therapy between the houses would be a good decision. Therapy is not only for you and your mental health, but also for the people around you that are getting impacted or hurt due to you. If the two houses went for therapy together, they would be able to achieve many things without violence being their source of action. There would no longer need to be cause for their "enmity", and everything can be harmonious in Verona, just like the Prince had wanted.

Throughout the entire play and the movie Mercutio has helped the Capulet family, and shown nothing but loyalty towards them. But as we know he dies in the second part of the play through the hands of Tybalt. Romeo's betrayal towards Mercutio changed Mercutio's entire perspective on what he had been following his entire life. I chose these two songs, as a way of resentment Mercutio would show towards Romeo, Tybalt, and both the families.

I specifically added "Enemy" to this genre because I felt that the lyrics "I see who you are, you are my enemy/ My enemy, you are my enemy" best implies when Mercutio said, "A plague o' both your houses!" (Rom. 3. 1. 99). These lyrics from the song best represents what Mercutio had said and the theme as well. The song makes the listener feel nervous or agitated by calling them an "enemy". An enemy may represent war and hatred in books to not only one person but maybe even an entire nation, therefore in Romeo and Juliet the plague and war convey that the conflict is not only between a few people, but the entire family.

This vision board was included to represent the hopes and dreams that Romeo had to live out with Juliet if he was able to live for longer. I believe his dream was to one day live his life peacefully with Juliet. I chose the vision board because it reflected how the visions just remained visions. The feuds never only impacted the elders within the family, but rather future of their kids and their dreams, which were all shattered within a week.

I imagine Romeo and Juliet trying to reach out for each other through windows hoping that some day they will be able to love each other like real lovers during the time Shakespeare was alive. Provided that the interaction between these two was in the 21st century, they could communicate through text messages. Where they can express their emotions toward each other without being judged or stopped by their families. Whenever they are in need of each other they can communicate, sadly this would not have needed to happen if their families were more accepting of them.

This idea specifically came from the quote when Juliet said, "My only love, sprung from my only hate!" (Rom. 1. 5. 136). For Juliet, Romeo is nothing but her enemy all her life. Just because her family has taught her how to hate the Montagues does not mean that it will cut off all her emotions that she has towards Romeo. She could have loved anyone, but did not. The family had created a fence between the communications and the love between Romeo and Juliet, placing them in a predicament that neither of them would have hoped for.

The vision board that Romeo has created reflects the wishes that he wanted to achieve with Juliet. Nevertheless, he was a bird stuck in a golden cage as he couldn't love the person that he wanted to love. He had to convince Friar Lawrence to try to get him and Juliet married. Friar Laurence only agreed to this by saying, “For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your households' rancor to pure love” (2.3. 91–92). This caused only part of Romeo's dream to come true. The other parts were pending through the pain and suffering both the houses had dawned upon each other keeping the two lovers apart.
