The powers of the president are both explained in the Constitution and also not. The ones that are not are called inherent powers. They powers usually are used during times of crisis. Such as wartime and also when the economy is down. These inherent powers allow the president to do what he thinks is right for the nation. The other powers are the ones that are listed in the Constitution. These state the the president is the Commander and Chief and the president can appoint certain government officials. These powers haven't changed that much over time. The powers of the president now are about the same as the powers that George Washington had. The inherent powers have changed a little, but for the most part, the powers of the president have remained the same for all of the presidents.
